I love diazepam, it's like a hug in a pill. However, as I'm sure your doctor has informed you, it is addictive so you need to be wary of that. Only take it as advised and don't be tempted to increase your dose without instruction from your doctor. It's not normally prescribed for long term use but in the short term it is brilliant, in my opinion.

Hi

Diazepam is a very good drug to help calm you down but you really need to be careful as it is very addictive I am sure your GP has told you already, but if you use it correctly I am sure you will find it helpful.

Take care Kenny

Just had a chat with the pharmacist and he said 2mg is a very lose dose and so if I only take it correctly as you guys say I should be fine. Never been a recreational drug user prior to now so can't see why I would be now. Ya just here so much bad press about it though don't ya.

2mg is low and I half it, but it really isn't a long term solution. x

Hi :)

my mum has been taking Diazepam off and on for anxiety for years. When I was really in bad way a few weeks ago I took 1mg. It didn't make me feel amazing but it did take the edge of my anxiety enough for me to think straight and do other things to occupy my mind.

I took another 1mg on Monday when I got myself in a state and again it just took the panic away. I know they can be addictive but I would like my doctor to prescribe them for me, just for emergencies. From what I have read they aren't a cure but they do give you some clarity to try other things, CBT or meditation.

I have an appointment with my doctor on Monday and I really don't want antidepressants again, but I would like Diazepam. Even to know it's there just in case.

Have a chat with your doctor and see what they say.

Good luck x

Well I didn't take any last night and had a fairly good sleep. Best in eight days, although I have to say it hasn't had much competition ha ha. Few nightmares but this is understandable with what's going on in counselling. Anyway thanks for the replies. Gonna only take then when in desperate is my plan. X

I'm with you all on diazepam. I love the descriptor "hug in a pill"; that is exactly what it feels like! I think there has been "bad press" on it because it was overused in the 60's to the 90's and people used it for years. It was never meant for that, as after time if you continue to use it it doesn't work and you actually get more anxiety. However as a one off or short term (couple of days) treatment for extremely high anxiety nothing beats it ; it is the best and it actually works! Save it for those "exceptional times" when you really need it like you say. (Agree with poster above; knowing it is there for an emergency really helps me and I have never abused drugs so just use it for absolute emergencies only )
