scared I’m sick

today I had a formal observation for teaching. I didn’t feel super nervous but afterwards I felt nauseous and my stomach was upset and uneasy. It’s been that way the rest of the day. I have eaten but I’m terrified I have norovirus or I’m slowly getting it. We’re picking up dinner right now and I’m scared to eat because I don’t want to get sick

I know that feeling all too well. I hate getting sick because one of my biggest anxiety symptoms is nausea. So when I get sick I instantly start to get anxious. My therapist once said to treat mental stress/anxiety like you would an actual cold or flu. Take time for you, I like showers because the water hitting in different spots distracts my mind, curl up in a cozy sweater n read or watch a movie. When my stomachs upset from anxiety I always go to gold fish, ginger ale, bananas n yogurt. Nothing to crazy but something enough so you don’t get nauseous from hunger. Or curling up next to someone can help too.

I also like to remind myself that I’m going to be okay. Even if it turns out I’m sick, I’ve been sick before and always get to the other side, the same goes for my anxiety. It’s a crappy and overwhelming feeling but I’ve survived it each and every time, I like to remind anxious Karlie that she’s okay and we are going to fine. Thank her for trying to protect me and warn me but she’s malfunctioning a bit and we don’t have anything to be scared of.

Be gentle with yourself, it’s not an easy thing to face every day.

I am also a teacher, we are "conditioned" to feel guilty if we are ill, as we "are letting down the children". Unfortunately in teaching it is very easy to pick up infections, and if we don't recover properly, we end up run down. Which then becomes a vicious circle of illness. There is a lot of viral GI infections in schools at the moment( I am off work as I dont seem to be able to recover) and post viral fatigue sets in. Karliel has given you excellent advice. Your observed lesson is in the past, be kind to yourself, you will get through this.

Thank you so much! I think I was mostly run down. It’s just a crazy time of year with so much to do it’s stressful

I’m not a doctor but I have anxiety and I get nausea after stressful situations like that. I have medication from my mental health doctor to calm my nerves now before the anxiety gets too bad. If I do get nausea I take Tums or Rolaids for a quick fix.

Your doctor can prescribe something for you to. If you want something natural try Ginger chews or Ginger candy. You can find it in a health food section of the grocery store. Ginseng tea also helps. Maybe getting down to the root of the start or causes of the anxiety and learning how to cope with it will ease your mind. Good luck.
