Does anyone get tense & anxious when driving?
I will not drive at night unless I absolutely have too. I have a hard time seeing in the dark so that doesn’t help either.
Yes, I can relate. My vision is not so good and I have difficulty with peripheral vision so parking is always especially challenging as well as the fact that as we get older our night vision decreases so I don't drive at night and stay off the freeways. It may take me longer to get somewhere but it is less stressful.
Yes my anxiety is even worse now since I had a car accident a the beginning of the year, I even shake . The trouble is we live in the country so no choice to drive
Hi Purplefish04,
I completely understand, as I too really stress out when I drive. I passed my tests 23 years ago and only started driving again about 2 years ago, when my Grandfather died and I was left his car. Other drivers terrify me and I find I really struggle with anxiety and a pressure to drive. I still have my Dad with me in the car when I drive, because I'm so nervous and lack confidence when driving. I also have newly diagnosed ADHD, so I really struggle to concentrate and I tire myself after only a short drive, as I struggle to focus and prevent myself from slipping into a daydream.
I was in a car accident 5 years ago, where a speeding driver crashed into the back of us. I wasn't driving, but it was such a violent accident that's left me very uncomfortable when being driven anywhere.
You might want to try hypnotherapy. You can buy a CD or download by a British hypnotherapist called Rachael Eccles on her website or on Amazon, etc. She has one for overcoming fear of driving. I'm definitely going to try that hypnotherapy to see if it helps.
I used to be really scared of driving.
