Hello I'm new here to site. Hoping to find connection. / support for anxiety. Long standing history of panic and anxiety attacks from teens. In the middle of a medication change. Takes awhile to see if it will work, side effects, etc. I work full-time, am a mom and wife . It's a struggle to stay fully functional some days. Any other similar experiences?
Thank you

Medicine changes aren't fun. Waiting so long to see if they'll help, hoping to not encounter nasty side effects, and being concerned about the long-term health effects. I'm starting a new medication right now, so these things are on my mind. I hope your new medication works for you.
I can relate to being barely functional some days, while also trying to work full time, be a parent, and a husband. I feel like I fail at it much of the time, or at least fall short. It is tough to be dealing with mental health challenges, while trying to live life with all the challenges inherit to it.
It is also frustrating when other people don't understand your anxiety issue. They say we all have anxiety to some degree sometimes. Some people don't seem to be bothered by it quite as much. For those of us who've lived with the "disorder" or pathological form of anxiety, it is awful.
Have you also tried therapy? That can be a challenge if you have a busy schedule with work and family, but I think trying every avenue you can is important.
I'm doing therapy right now, and though it isn't a quick fix or magic bullet, it is something one can do to try to help themselves.
I hope you feel better and kind find something that helps you.
Yes, it's very frustrating when you try to explain your anxiety- It's often met with " its just stress, everyone has it". I feel anxiety is a new " tag line" for when people are dealing with anything that causes discomfort. Not discounting those feelings of course, however panic attacks are in a different realm
Yes, been in counseling in combination with medication support. Having a supportive counselor is vital for emotional exploration and often learning the " whys" of why we feel certain way, building coping skills , etc.
Trying the balance it all, while being a "functional adult " is challenging. There are days I just take a day off for rest. Learning the benefits of self care. 😀
Thank you for being empathic, and sharing. Wish you the best , and better days ahead . Truly one day at a time.
You deserve a day off when you need it - take it! Also, I think anxiety is not a tag line but very real which for me has now morphed into panic attacks. This site is amazing fof support, feedback, and learning. Welcome!
I have battled things for decades as well. The change of meds and finding what works can be an extremely challenging thing. You are a complex person with emotions, feeling, and multiplr hats (emplpyee, mom, wife, etc). Meds, side effects and whether they aide in your situation(s) can be a process that is not linear. Sometimes you need your village, or a team to help you through these times. They could be in real life or via something like this. Finding people you connect with who are on a similar journey can aide in your journey as well. Human connection is something that is vital and can be difficult to find, but it is essential. Whether it be with your provider who is prescribing meds, treatment or anything.
Thank you. The point you made about a non linear line is so very true. . I've tended to keep my panic attacks quiet and have not shared. Over the last year that has changed as I've been honest w more about how I'm really feeling, and experiencing. My village has grown w some really true friends.
I am so ecstatic to hear your village has grown. Being able to share is truly cathartic. I hope your trajectory continues towards your goals and healing.
