Glad to help, Dodge, but you’ll have to have a little patience. We can start up tomorrow cuz right now, I’m tangled up in some real thorny weeds. Tomorrow will be a new day to organize my thoughts. Okidata? 😁
Roy Orbison was the greatest popular singer and song writer of the twentieth century. Who said so? Elvis said so and he should know. The greatest moment in musical history took place in 1988 and was known as 'Roy Orbison's Black and White Night' when all the leading singers and musicians came together as backing to play second fiddle in a tribute to Roy in which the Big O sang 10 of his greatest hits. It was divine. I played it on DVD every night for a year.
He would stand stock still (unlike Elvis), hardly opening his mouth and this beautiful sound would issue forth which at times achieved operatic proportions.
His greatest number was and is 'In dreams' which features in 'Black and white night'. Like Elvis, who famously said of Roy 'If I am the King then Roy Orbison is the Emperor', he died in similar conditions far too young just as his come back was launched in the late 80s.
For some reason he was most popular in the U.K. rather than the U.S. and he toured extensively here where he had an extensive following. He was a kind and gentle man.
All this is not completely off topic, if you're feeling stressed or down then listening to a few of his tracks like 'In Dreams', 'Crying', 'Its over' and his last ever recording 'You've got it' could well be good therapy.
Hi J1943.
Beautiful post & ur right not off topic as we can all wax lyrical about our favourite singers or band .
I found out many years ago I was told that The Big O started to wear all black after his 1st wife died in a motorcycle accident , not sure if it is true but he was definitely an amazing artist.
