Augmentin for infections

I went to the ER last Saturday with extreme off and on side pains. Found out my kidney was failing to drain urine into my bladder properly. And something with my bowel and intestines. So I have 3 infections. I feel worse with taking augmentin then I did before. I get side pains off and on, not as bad now that 2 days have passed since starting it. And intense diarrhea. I have to follow up with the urologist on June 4th 11am, and I'm nervous. It's to make sure it isn't anything cancerous going on. The tests at the hospital show I didn't have a UTI, which is usually what causes those problems. So I'm kind of worried. .but I'm taking the meds as i need. The side effects are horrible though. And also I have dizziness alot too. The tests also showed many ovarian cysts, which should go away on their on hopefully. And a spine issue near the bottom. I have so many health problems going on right now and it's draining. Has anyone on here been on augmentin for infections? What were some side effects you went through?? Also I'm sorry this is all over the place, I just tend to ramble and go all over the place when I'm anxious and in my head

I have used Augmentin before for a sinus infection I believe. It does cause diarrhea and stomach upset, but if yours is severe, it might be best to call the doctor. They may need to switch to a different antibiotic.

Im debating going back to the ER tonight because even with the antibiotics, I'm still having pain in that one same area just right under my right ribs. And my appendix looks fine so I know it isn't that. I'm also on 900mg of augmentin and still this issue.

Are you drinking enough fluid?

Did they mention you could take something for the pain?

All I've been drinking is water mainly. And no they didn't

Glad you are drinking fluids. That's too bad about the pain. Maybe something like Tylenol?

If that pain is unbearable you may want to call someone

I hope you feel better soon. Please keep us posted

It went away. I think it was just a bowel problem.. which sucks but I'll manage. And I will. Yeah, I get dehydrated very easily, so I've been pushing lots of water with this med so I don't end up back in the ER for being severely dehydrated

Augmentin is a very strong antibiotic. I would, like another said, call your doctor and tell them how you're feeling. Did they check for kidney stones by chance? One thing to do while on antibiotics is take a probiotic, but clear that with your physician first. Hope you get to feeling better ❤️

No kidney stones. I've had them in past so they checked for that.

Hope you feel better soon Ashley. Hang in there. Try cranberry juice diluted with water. Helps with bladder and kidney issues. Also probiotic for sure, or yogurt at minimum. Keep us posted. Lifting you in prayer. 🙏🏻

Augmentin is known to cause diarrhoea. It is mainly due to the Amoxicillin in the med. I have been on this med but at 625mg. though I suffered severe diarrhoea, the med worked for me. I used to have lots of liquids (barley water, coconut water yoghurt..etc) to avoid dehydration. wish you quick recovery

What did they actually put you on augmentin for? Where were the infections? And, yes, it can cause diarrhea. If severe I would immediately return to the doctor for a possible switch to another antibiotic. And as others have said keep up your fluids so you don't become dehydrated. Hope you feel better!

It was for my bladder and kidney. Also my bowels. I'm just so confused how I got 3 infections and didn't notice til the pain. I didn't have a UTI so I know that didnt cause the problems with kidney and bladder. So they're giving me that medicine to see how ido and follow up with the urologist.

Here's an updateMy appt went well. The urologist said they only seen a few small stones in my kidney, and the reason my kidney was having problems draining into my bladder was because my bowels were inflamed bc of the infection. Other than that, I've had no pain really lately and the meds are working . So good news 😁

Thank you. Just about 2 more days of meds left. I'm hoping no other issues with this again. It sucked. It took about 5-6 days for them to start making the side pains stop and start working. But I'm finally feeling better. Other then these sinuses, my ears making feel dizzy alot
