Does anyone have tips on effectively managing intrusive thoughts ?

Hi, I'm really struggling with this too. I've currently downloaded an app called Thrive ( from Aviva free through work). I've started going through that. It's CBT. I have done online CBT before and at the time it really helped me. But I didn't continue practicing what I learnt and went back to the intrusive thoughts.

I have a huge problem with intrusive thought. I've tried cognitive behavioural therapy. It made the situation worse. I have a psychologist since Dec 2023. He says it depends on the origin of the thoughts. In my case, it just made me tired, exhausted, and reinforced the thoughts.

I used to go to an anxiety group. The leader of the group used to tap her foot and say: ''here, now; here, now...'' That helped. I can't go anymore cause I work at the times of the meetings. I also can't take her and her foot around with me.

Have had OCD Intrusive thots. for years before I got any proper help. Was on Effexor, and did Exposure Therapy & that helped. Still have the thots., at times, but the Exp. T. put them in the background instead of going around & around, & around & getting Stuck in the "loop!" I have cut down on the Effexor (lots of unwanted side effects)! I don't know your situation, or if you have OCD, but whatever, intrusive thots. can be Very Painful. While some of the intrusive thots. have diminished, there are others which I have to work on. Keep trying, and if one therapy doesn't work, or med., try another! Hugs!
