New guy here, saying "hi." I'm trying to cut back on my drinking, and it's a bit frustrating. Just needed to say that to someone. The frustration is more emotional than physical; I'm a "creature of habit," and not doing something I'm used to doing created internal tension. Hope you all have a good evening.

Hi job2.im the same trying to cut back drinking.its so easy to get into the habit of drinking in the evening when I'm sat in my armchair.then I find when adverts are on I nip to kitchen to pour more.and let's face it our spirit measures are lot lot bigger then pub measures.and we all know drinking alone is not a good idea.but hey we still do it.im trying to tell myself just drink Friday and Saturday evenings. So far I have stuck to that at the moment for 3 weeks.

Hi There:

I’m going to be the nasty bloke and say, if your habit has got to the point of your being conscious of it and seeking the views of others, perhaps it is time to take a break and find a new means by which to amp down your tension. After all, the very nature of booze is that it acts as a depressant.

There's nothing nasty about the truth. That's why I'm here.

Understand completely, I’m doing the same. I have a psychological habit as well. Aiming to cut down and then hopefully stop all together.

Good morning! I read some articles last night about the difference between alcoholism and problem drinking. It's a thin line, but the difference is physical addiction. Right now, at 7:55 am, I am not struggling with temptation, waiting for the liquor store to open. (Of course, I'm on my second large cup of coffee. Different drug.) So for me, the struggle is only in the evening. It's a habit/routine. I slept better than usual, and I didn't wake up at 3 am feeling guilty. Hope you all have a great day.

I'm not sure what you drink, but my husband has been impressed with non-alcoholic beers, while I have a girlfriend who has found some great non-alcoholic wines. They may help with the habit part. Just an idea!
