Can anyone help in trying to figure out the root cause of my anxiety. I did not have childhood trauma., but have dealt with anxiety/ health anxiety off and on for years. It has became really bad over the past year. Also, has anyone tried hypnosis?

I'm not sure others can get to the root of your issues. That's your work to do. Are you in therapy?

I've never done hypnosis and would be interested to read about others that have tried it.

Wishing you the best

it may be a menopause symptom. I had an early menopause at 42. That’s when my anxiety started and I didn’t link it to the menopause. Since then, more studies have shown that it is a symptom for many.

Unfortunately, I don't have any insights into the root cause of your anxiety, but at least for me, everything is connected. That is to say, although there are some specific causes of my own anxiety that I struggle to articulate, better sleep, better nutrition, more exercise, and more social interaction make my anxiety and pretty much everything better. I love using various hypnosis scripts and find them quite helpful. Dr. David Spiegel at Stanford is one of the most well known, although I found his Reveri app rather mediocre. I have enjoyed a lot of the material that Dr. Stephen Guegevich at U. Arizona has produced and even paid for his online course at Sounds True.com. That being said, it is helpful to find a voice and script that works for you and it is good to try quite a few. I enjoy listening to Paula Sweet from Absolute Mind as well as some of the tracks by Rick Smith hypnosis. I also really like some of the material put out by nimja. He has a good website with free downloads and interesting visuals and YouTube videos that I find useful (although a word of caution that he also has some adult content that I avoid).

Also, if you are going to try hypnosis I recommend that you do a progressive muscle relaxation beforehand - lots of good free tracks online. Progressive muscle relaxation is great for anxiety and makes it much easier to go into hypnosis - as well as sleep.

Sorry to hear your anxiety has worsened. It is such a horrible feeling. Since we don't know you or your circumstances it would be difficult to figure out what is causing it. Had anything in your life changed? Do you have a therapist? They would be helpful in trying to help you figure out what is going on.

My anxiety hit the ceiling after menopause. Your brain chemistry changes after menopause. You might want to look into this. I am on low dose hormone replacement therapy HRT and it seems to help with my overall well-being.

Howdy Cardinals1. I think there are many great answers here. I believe that our brain is the biggest factor in how we feel. How we think about things subconsciously I think leads to our emotions.

Anyway, in his book "Feeling Great" David Burns takes us through common thinking errors and many examples of people and their thinking errors. A good therapist would be ideal for getting to the root of your feelings I think, but that book for me has been life changing too.☮️
