health worries

The other day I had a fall, I was walking home and I blacked out and fell badly grazing my knee and my hand I also nearly dislocated my shoulder. I have a bandage on my hand and a big scab on my knee. I don’t remember how it happened I just remember being on the floor with lots of blood pouring out of my hand. This is the second time I’ve fallen in the past couple of days.

Today I had my blood pressure checked and it was high 144/97 and now I’m starting to worry about my health.

True. I do take propranolol for rapid heart beat which seems to help the high blood pressure. What is a normal blood pressure?

Regular blood pressure is 120/80. I take a small amount of amlodopine for my high blood pressure. I’m very sensitive. If I hit 140 on top, I don’t feel well.

I’m sorry you experienced that, the same thing happened to my dad he collapsed turned out to be a blood clot in his lung. Not saying that’s your condition.

Have you followed up with a doctor on the blackout?

Incognito OMG that is awful. I’m glad you’re ok. Do you take blood pressure meds or any meds? I’m wondering if you do if they could be a culprit that’s giving you syncope. Talk to your doctor just to double check and be safe. Keep us posted. Prayers up and hugs.

I’m a little concerned about speaking to a doctor about this, I have been asked to have a few more blood pressure tests over the next couple of weeks.

I'm not clear on why you wouldn't speak to the doctor?

What do you mean by blood pressure tests? Is that just going in for a BP check?

This is very concerning. You are worried and if you act on it sooner rather than later you will have answers

Please be careful

I guess I’m worried because I already suffer from HIV, asthma, anxiety and depression now it looks like I have high blood pressure so Mr Anxiety is now causing me to get a little panicky

Dolphin14 profile image
Dolphin14 in reply toIncognitoC

Ok that makes sense

But with all your other medical problems you should go. I know you know this but you are scared

It may just be a tweak of the medication that is needed

Are you drinking enough fluid?

We need you to stay upright :)

High blood pressure, when not managed can lead to more serious conditions. Do take your meds. You made the right choice after blacking out and falling. Keep caring for yourself and it will pay off. Take a moment to recognize your strength Anxiety is gripping. It's relentless. But I see that you are more relentless, as you've kept on going despite the negativity that surrounds you. Take a moment to forgive yourself or make not of all that you have been able to overcome in the face of the anxiety beast. Be well and remind yourself of your strength.

Please see your Dr, uncontrolled blood pressure can lead to strokes or heart attacks.

Oh no! Are you elderly? I am a senior citizen and I have fallen a number of times, but it's usually while I'm running. I find that I have less "body awareness" now and I have to watch where I'm walking. The "blacking out" is concerning. Could it be caused by a side effect of a medication? Please get it checked out by a physician.

I’m not elderly as such I am 50

Blood pressure with your #'s would most likely not be the reason for blacking out but you really should get it checked out and keep on top of it.

Have you been put on any medication?

Oh, I see you haven't consulted a doctor yet; please do, because falls can be caused by many things, as well as high BP.

You should be taking more care.

Cheers, Midori

A BP of 144/97 is a bit high (especially the bottom number, the diastolic) but certainly not high enough to cause 2 falls in a few days. Actually, depending on your age, the top number (systolic) would be within range; if you are over 70 or so, 150/80 is considered fine. But no matter what your age, the worrisome part is that you fell because of a blackout. If you had tripped over something it would be a different story. Do you have any known conditions that would cause you to black out, like low blood sugar if you have diabetes? I see you live in the UK and I am reading all the time about how bad off your health care system is, but you need to see somebody who can perform some tests to try to determine why you are blacking out. It could be something minor or an indication of something more serious. YOU REALLY NEED TO DO THIS AS SOON AS YOU CAN. I don't assume it will be easy the way your health care system is, but you have to make this your top priority.

Not what you're looking for?
