let me just say upfront that I’m a big burly bearded man and I adore Halloween, it’s just my favorite like I love to dress up in something ridiculous and go to parties and shit. Well the flip side of that coin is every Halloween season I get reminded of how I can’t just walk into any store I feel like and grab something off the rack. My size is one of my biggest insecurities and it’s always big downer on my favorite time of the year.

Big Boi’s unite! I feel you on this and I also love Halloween.
I haven’t yet SUCCEEDED on this mind you, but I have more recently begun looking into how to get into hobbyist costuming/cosplaying skills so perhaps I can assemble a custom costume for my physique. Just before the fire, I had decided the year before to assemble a pirate costume. So i’d go into goodwill or other type shops and look around for anything that might fit both myself and my theme. And after a whole year of trying it looked horrible. It was hilarious and glad that monstrosity is ash!
But I think the next time I get the urge I might definitely look into making my own costume from scratch. It takes a lot of work but I honestly think it will be far more enjoyable of a project than just snatching something off the shelf. You can be your own canvas and it sounds like you already have a head start on that front!
You are not your torso measurements. From your post I can tell that you must be an absolute blast of a human being to be around. Creative, out going and fun. That’s more attractive to people professionally, platonically and romantically than anything else. You rock.
Man thank you! You’re so sweet! Exactly what I needed to hear right now for real! I also have thought about like well I could probably sew that meanwhile I’ve never made a stitch in my life lol ain’t gonna stop me from trying tho! Being Ken for Halloween, here I come
I was going to say no better time to get a sewing machine
some of the best designers are men! Go for it!!
Hi Sarge! Welcome to the community!
Like you, I'm a Halloween freak! (although not a party gal!)
I love dressing up my house for Halloween, but I can't often do it outside, as the weather is appalling here in Britain at the end of October! My house is on a hill, and we call it Whistlin' Ridge, because the wind whistles though and the trash cans get blown away, so I have put out steel bins to keep 'em in line! (we get the tail ends of your hurricanes).
I have 6 skeletons, which get dressed up, Witch, Grim Reaper, Scarecrow and I'm doing the Pirate at the moment, but finding a Tricorn is difficult! 2 more to find costumes for. I have animal skeletons too, A howling wolf and another big dog; cats and other small skellies, I also have a fruit bat which hangs in the living room window. There is also an animated Butler.
Outdoors, (weather permitting) I have an enormous Spider web, with a spider with a body as big as my head! Also a cemetery, as my frontage is just gravel, which I turn into a graveyard for the evening with fencing and tiki style torches for illumination.
My son dresses up as a werewolf and I dress as a witch, and if it's not too wet and windy we sit outside and make like statues among the Skellies! Lots of candy of course, all packaged and put in party bags. Plenty of illuminated pumpkins of course. I'm a shoo in for a witch, I'm 75, don't need a lot of makeup! At the end of the evening we pack up and vanish without a trace!
Cheers, Midori
