1. I’m on 3 meds right now to get this anxiety /depression under control. I keep having the thoughts that maybe I should be be on them, or that they’ll do more harm them good. Or I’ll need them forever to get by… probably typical worries, I’d bet. However, I have wondered if these meds will keep me from truly recovering. Do you think that happens

Second one also has a lot to do with meds. As I’m recovering, I have had set backs that are very hard. Do the meds cause highs to be higher and lows to be lower? Or did I just make that up in my head haha?

Hi Dadoffour Meds can be very important in stopping the cycle of fear and anxiety.

We can't take a step forward if we are held back by the constant fear. Meds allow us

to do this along with therapy to get to a point where we can function w/o them or at

least find other methods or tools that can help.

Meds are to help you at this point. They may not be the complete answer but more

like a bandaid until you find a solution. It will not make your highs higher or your

lows lower. Keep in touch with your prescribing physician and work closely with

his suggestions. Hopefully you will seek therapy in addition to the medication.

It's all a process that will help you reach your goal. :) xx

Thank you! That is what I’m doing, I will do therapy for longer. Last time I did it until things were going good then stopped. This time I’m just going to keep it going.

Dadoffour, you will know when to stretch out the sessions or take a hiatus.

Now is the not the time to skimp. It's going to be okay. You're going to be okay.

P..S. I smiled when I read the ages of your little ones :)

You are so blessed. Take care :) xx

I really appreciate that! Last few days have been better. I had a really stressful situation start at work and I think that triggered me? Anyway, I will definitely keep on it.

Thanks I truly am blessed! Things are hectic and and stressful but I thank god they call me dad! I hope I can give them everything they need.

I understand your situation. I also wonder if the meds keep me from recovering. Like, a veil or something. I'm on 3 meds too. I figured forever honestly because idk how I'd be without them ya know?

I too have had many setbacks. But, you raise a very good question here. I'd also like to know that. I suspect that the meds change us a lot in the brain.

Hi Dadoffour, I have wondered the same things before.

Meds a few definitely helpful, but I think long term, once we are feeling better, it is best to slowly wind them down to the lowest level we are comfortable with. That may mean slowly winding down and stopping one and sticking with the other two or something like that.

My concern has been weight gain, so I'd like to stop the medication I take that can cause that. The other one doesn't seem to cause any problems so I'll just keep taking it forever I think.

What medications are you taking?

Lexapro, busiprone and mirtazapine! You? I agree, hopefully we can get off them safely!

Lol! I never thought about it until recently! My meds just helped me function, so I always worry what I’d be like without meds. Try not to overthink it! Hopefully drs are better today then decades ago when I started!!!!

After trying things on and of with meds, i've found I do better on one med and I also know there is a biological predisposition on my fathers side that I probably need an antidepressant. I've also found that meds alone don't resolve my issues, it also took the appropriate therapy for me to heal and yes, setbacks are a common part of the healing process. The good thing is that the more you heal and make progress, the shorter the setbacks are and the less intense. So for me, it took the combination of the right med and therapy for me to heal, which I think is fairly common.

Hi, I've been on antidepressants and benzodiazepines for anxiety for over 30 years but they helped me a little bit not completely but yes they did help and I could tell. If you take them for 2 months or more and you can't tell the difference then they're either the wrong meds or not the meds for you. I say if you feel better while on the meds maybe that is something you should consider at least temporarily get your head on straight and then try to make more educated well thought out decision. Depending on your diagnosis and your meds some meds will raise the level of suicidal ideation that's a common warning for an antidepressant I think it's pretty sad warning anti-anxiety medications benzodiazepines will make you very drowsy and if you take too much you will sound like you're drunk. I am on Prozac and lamictal this is a new regimen for me so I'm giving it a shot and I will evaluate in the month whether or not I agree with the meds. Some meds Dole your senses some meds it feels like they change you into something different that you're not supposed to be. Think you should talk with your doctor try them out and change as you need to go along. Hope that helps good luck be well.
