Happens to me sometimes. I think it helps to realize that you recognize this is happening. I was on the way home from a work trip yesterday and started feeling depressed, even though I was going home. Maybe because work is not as good from the home office, maybe because we had golfed earlier in the day and I didn't have that to look forward to.
Could it be because you now had your smoke break and don't have that to look forward to? I feel if you could say what you said in this post to someone it would help. I can do that sometimes... just say to someone "why the hell do I feel depressed out of nowhere?! then give a little ARGH! yell.
As an aside, if you can change the way you think you can change the way you feel. That is from a book called "feeling good" by David Burns I think. I am going to recommend it to everyone
If I've been pushing away feelings for a while and then it's the end of the day or the weekend or things are quiet, then sometimes the feelings will pop up. And it can be disconcerting because it seems unconnected to what's actually happening in that moment.
If I find that analyzing the feeling is just making the feeling worse, then I switch to letting the feeling be there, try to draw a picture of it and maybe write down some phrases that seem to be attached to it. That helps me sometimes.
Hi AXXES2 - That can happen. Sometimes bad feelings can just come out of the blue. Has it passed by now? I don't know if I have mentioned it, but one thing that often helps is exercise, as it releases endorphins, which lift your mood. I know you can't do this in the middle of the work day, but do you run, walk, lift weights, or anything else on your own time?
I have this happen a lot, but more so when I was younger and in college. For me, the correct medications have been a lifesaver. I am wondering if you are able now to see a psychiatrist and, if not, could you ask a general practitioner? I am glad you are talking about this because that in itself can help. You are not alone in this. Sending prayers.
