I'm currently 21 years old and I find myself becoming more and more isolated as time goes on. I have no desire to socialize with anyone, attend my university, or engage in activities that used to bring me joy. Is this a typical experience, or is there something I should do to address it?

How can I get out of these issues?
Welcome to the forum Shayan 🙂
I don't know how effectively anyone could give you a diagnosis here, but it certainly sounds like depression. Everyone has their own individual experiences and "fixes". Sometimes forcing yourself to go through the motions and 'fake it til you make it' can help. If it's a more deep-seated issue therapy or even medication could help.
There are a lot of good people here, chatting on here with folks could be a good outlet for you
The symptoms you're describing to me sound like depression. You may want to explore cognitive behavioral therapy, some kind of group therapy on the internet maybe is zoom, this platform, and reading some books about depression. I have had an isolation problem for 40 plus years. When I get really depressed and lose my joy I start hiding and isolating. This is very destructive behavior. There have been times when I've actually had to force myself to leave my house to go to church, to go to the grocery store, go to a park. I have to work hard just to engage with people. The longer you isolate the worse depression can become. Definitely do something good for yourself, self care is important. Keep posting here. We understand we relate we can help. Definitely take action for your mental health. Be well
Hi and thank you for your post.
Please consult a doctor to get a diagnosis of your mental health condition. To the lay person it could be major depression that you are experiencing. Asking about mental health is part of the doctor's primary care role . If this is your first experience of feeling this way, you may not feel comfortable but the discussion will be okay.
If you still are enrolled at university, students can access free confidential help via the Student Assistance Program (SAP).
SAP is designed to assist in identifying issues including mental health issues which pose a barrier to a student’s success. The primary goal of the SAP is to help students overcome barriers so that they may achieve, advance, and remain in school.
The process of accessing the SAP varies depending on the university you attend. You can usually access the service in person through student services office, over the phone, on the university website, or using a mobile app.
The important thing is to reach out early for help. Most of us have been there before, in a depressed mood and can help you with tips and tricks to feel better.
Welcome to the community. I have a major depression and anxiety disorder. I can identify with your struggles. I’m not saying that’s what you have. A doctor needs to make that diagnosis. Have you reached out for treatment?
You received a lot of fabulous responses here. Keep posting.
It sounds like you may have depression. The symptoms you are describing how all classic symptoms of depression. I would suggest going to your school's clinic and see if they can do an evaluation for depression and make a good referral.
