Has your doctor not given you instructions on how to taper off? I'm unfamiliar with that medication, so I can't give you info, but I think you should go back and ask him, or phone for information.
Cheers, Midori
Yes, definitely talk to your doctor, don't change the dose on your own. May I ask why you say the dose is too high? Are you having side effects? I was on Celexa a while ago for almost 10(?) years and it worked great for me before it stopped working. I had been on Prozac for the 10 years before that, started on it soon after it came out. After Prozac stopped working was switched to Celexa. Hope it all works out for you!!
The grogginess during the day was keeping me from doing my work properly. I have been on celexa for 6 years at 30 mg (worked well) and with a new episode of anxiety was bumped up to 40 mg. 40 mg reduced anxiety but made be groggy.
What are you on after Celexa stopped working?
After Celexa was on several different meds the years following it, some worked, some didn't, some gave me bad side effects. A few years ago became treatment resistant to meds after being on them for decades. (I'm in my 60's) Luckily my therapist recommended TMS(transcranial magnetic stimulation). It has been my saving grace and it literally saved my life. Plus I love not being on on antidepressants anymore. Obviously as with any treatment it doesn't work for everyone. What's the status of your Celexa ?? Maybe your doctor can switch you to something else.
Celexa keeps the anxiety at bay even now- but the drowsiness side effect is the problem now. I am debating - live with drowsiness or ask for medication change that is working for the principal problem. For some one who has tried so many options , what would you do?
I may ask for a medication change, especially if it's interfering with your day to day activities. Happened to me with my first medication back in the late 80's; I was falling asleep at work.
