Could we please have a pinned post telling new folk how to lock their posts please?

It's been so long since I started a thread, that I can't remember and I think some bits of the site have changed.

It would help no end as some folk are reluctant to respond to an unlocked post, and it also helps sensitive information escaping onto the Web?

If it could be pinned right at the top it would help.

Cheers, Midori

I agree Midori but unfortunately it still boils down to the person wanting

to lock their posts. So many personal issues posted on this site that it is

safer to lock that info in place to just our community. :) xx

Trouble is, the folks who don't know, or can't be bothered are putting everyone in danger from trolls. If the lock was prominent it would help.

Definitely, I so agree. We went through this about a month ago in letting

people know their posts should be locked and how it can be done.

When I looked the next day, they weren't locked. I think HU needs to get

involved in this issue. Thanks for caring about our safety Midori :) xx

Most don't know how, because it isn't clearly spelt out on the Page where you post

It isn't clear at all.

You would think with modern day technology HU would be able to lock all posts automatically when they are posted, problem solved🤷‍♀️

The default button is set to everyone and not community only so this could be done. I presume HU want to attract more members.

Just before you post there is an option for 'anyone' and another for 'community only'. You need to change this because of the default.

You can back edit by clicking on your post and finding the edit button. Depending on your device it will be in a different place but it will be there somewhere so have a search for it.

I hope this helps.

Nothing like free advertising I guess? That’s probably why it’s not brought to new members attention except for existing members who pass it on.

Well the site is free for us to use so I guess we can't complain too much!

Do you know how to lock down your whole account so someone can't hack it, or is that even possible? Also, as I understand, you can only lock "Posts," not "Replies," is that correct? "Nothing_but_pain," thought you might know the answer to some of these questions. I have written to the HU administration, but they have failed to respond. Thank you!

Agreed!

I agree; with health posts being of a sensitive mature, I would have thought that locking would be the Default setting.

Hi you need to contact admin/mods and ask them to do it. We can't.

I hope you don't mind me speaking to PM safety on your post

We have trolls circulating the boards. They are sad souls not having anything else to do with their time.

Please be cautious with a new comer that dives right into PM. We've had a few lately.

Get to know people first and use the report button when needed.

Safety first

I don’t see any problem in locking posts , it’s at the bottom of each post, anyone or community only, have you tried that Midori

Midori in reply toArymretep

I don't have a problem personally; I posted this for folk who perhaps aren't as up on the workings of the Health Unlocked forums, and to try to help folk avoid trolls; I really think that HU could be more proactive by setting the general setting to Community only; that way, it would make it more difficult for the trolls. I've been on HU for 10 years, and it seems that it was only when we amalgamated with the U,S, site that we started to get the trolling.

I am sorry you started getting trolling when opening up to the U.S. market! Partly that happens when a business grows, but my country, the U.S., is a large nation with a lot of diversity. I think being a giant melting pot of people is a strength, but it can also be difficult to govern as a democracy. (An example of this would be the anger over politics the U.S. has been experiencing for the last eight years.) Like every country, we also have good and bad people. And so, in these global times, "getting hacked" has regrettably become our "new reality!" 😥

One of the first things they ask on the Fibromyalgia board is to lock your posts.

I agree, Is it me but I think your post isn’t locked 🤔

It is me, I thought I was contacting HU itself rather than the Forum.

Midori, I am new on this site as of Jan 2023, and after reading this post, I have tried three times to "lock" my account. I have finally figured out how to lock down a "Post" by the example above, but the site doesn't seem to allow me to do this with new or old "Replies." Additionally, I have gone into "Settings" in my account to try to lock it down, but there is no option.

Recently, I texted HU through their "Contact" button to see if they would respond. I haven't heard back yet.

Sorry If I misled you; wasn't intentional.

You have to lock each post at the beginning of your thread.

Cheers, Midori

You didn't mislead me. I am just now learning about locking a "Post" as I have only posted one time. But I still don't understand how to lock a "Reply." I will see if the HU administrators answer me.

You can't lock your replies. You can look at the top of a post and see if the lock symbol appears. That lets you know the original poster locked that post. Some members choose not to reply to unlocked posts.

But I noticed some people have locks by their accounts. How do you lock your account so someone can't hack it?

I'm not aware of such a thing. Ask hypercat. She's on top of this stuff.

You don't need to, just the original post!
