Palpitations and anxiety

This last couple weeks have been busy and stressful. Having palpitations more which is common with increased anxiety. Woke up yesterday morning with a migraine which keep me down all day. Finally feeling better but palms driving me crazy.

Anyone else have palpitations and/pounding so much you think your heart is going to stop or explode?! I HATE this feeling. I have had these off and on for years and had every test under the sun. I’ve been told it’s PVS, a slight extra bear and totally benign but still hard to not get uptight about it.

yes I deal with the same thing!! It is so uncomfortable. I’m sorry you have to do through that I know exactly how those palpitations feel it’s terrible. I usually put my hand on my heart and take deep breathes and remind myself I won’t die and it will pass, and I tell myself I’ve gotten through it before so I will get through it again!

Had them for years on & off. Finally got a diag. of Mitral Valve Prolapse, and also a heart murmur, & on a stress test PVC's which Dr. said same as yours did. Also, had a multi cystic goiter where one cyst became toxic & I had hyperthroid --Suffered from Anxiety (OCD & Panic D.), and depression. I'm writing all this as all doctor's should check for physical as well as psych. disorders as one Cannot seperate the body from the mind --one effects the other -- Am on a Beta Blocker which really helps with the palpitations, had radio-active iodine for thyroid (made me hypothtriod --med. for that, but never like nature. Therapy, groups, and med. (low dose) for Anxiety/Dep. Struggling, still as some major life issues, recently. Just have a complete work up if you already haven't.

Hi Weatherwoman, you certainly aren't alone in having been diagnosed with

Mitral Valve Prolapse (MVP). I'm really surprised I don't see it written about

more often. I was diagnosed as well many years ago before Anxiety ever came into

the picture. Well at least I thought so. The symptoms were scary to say the least.

From there, I was diagnosed with Anxiety. I felt as if my world was closing in on me.

2 years after that, I developed Fibromyalgia.

It was then that I did a research study of my own on 200 patients who had these

3 issues. The response was overwhelming. Each person had something traumatic

happen in their lives that put them in this state of fear. I had 2 teaching hospitals

put on a community program for these 200 people. We had to turn away many

because of the overwhelming response. That's when I knew I wasn't alone.

The panel consisted of 3 physicians. A Cardiologist, A Psychiatrist and a

Rheumatologist. Each explained in how all these diagnoses were all interconnected.

I agree with Weatherwoman in that the Mind/Body Connection is a powerful one.

We can't just assume it comes from one source. :) xx

Thanks for your reply which I thoroughly agree with. Of course if your heart starts beating SO fast "out of the blue," and you can't slow it down, you are going to get anxious --REAL anxious -DUH. Yes, Anxiety can & does make one's heart beat Fast, and the more anxious one gets, the faster the heart beats. However, doctors should do a complete workup just to rule out physical causes such as a Mitral Valve Prolapse, a over-active thyroid, etc. And, yes these two conditions can mimic a Panic Attack, or be the start of a PANIC DISORDER! Actually, as I've stated the Body and Mind Cannot be separated --one effects the other --this seems SO simple, yet medical drs., and Psych. can't seem to understand this! The person is a WHOLE person with all parts of their body & mind working as a WHOLE person.

Total empathy for you. Palps are mean and the the anxiety butthead makes them even scarier. With all the scary thoughts. Hang in there. Drink a little extra water and try to say the hell with them and hopefully they subside soon. Big hugs.
