codeine

hi everyone, I’ve always had bad anxiety and in last few years slipped into taking codeine when struggling. Now can’t stop (I just buy it over counter with ibuprofen) - between 9 -16 pills a day averagely. I want to stop but get more anxious when I try. Anyone have this? Anyone have any tips to help stop? Thanks

Hi …. If your taking so many it’s the ibuprofen you need to be more concerned about….that stuff will give you stomach problems….the codine amount is 8 mg?? Is that right …..the recommended max dose codine is usually 8 mg x 2 x 4 times daily = 8 tablets …..but doctors can prescribe the same in 30 mg tablets 2 x 4 times daily …..you’re definitely in between the max dose recommended range….codine will bung you up too that will cause complications along the line hope this helps as took an age to type

thanks so so much - yeah it’s the 8mg - yeah the ibuprofen is probably causing the worst damage… it’s so easy to take and get… but talking about it really helpful - thanks for your words

ok so not just weeks then , can you go and discuss this with a gp and get you off the ibuprofen for starters and maybe give you codine 30 mg on a detox basis also address the underlying anxiety Maybe is that possible ?

Can’t believe you can buy ibuprofen with codine otc in the UK. We can’t do this in the US. The amount of ibuprofen you are putting in your system daily will due permanent damage to your liver far sooner than the codine will. Try to taper yourself slowly. If you can’t do this on your on, reach out for help from a doctor. There are other nonaddicting meds they can give you to help get you off the codine. I’ve been through a similar problem with back pain and the use of narcotics did help my anxiety as well. But this leads down a terrible path that you don’t want to go down. It eventually had to come to an end for me, since we don’t have otc narcotics in the US, thank god. Please consider nipping this problem in the bud asap as it leads no where fast and has long term repercussions to your physical and mental health. I’ve been there and recovered but it’s hell my friend. Good luck to you. 👍

try Getting a benzo here diddly squat chance of that happening….but it’s true you can buy as many ibuprofen as you can swallow, codine the pharmacist only supposed to sell it to you for 3 days then refer you to your doctor but people just pharmacy surf

wow! That’s surprising. Luckily my doc cut me off when he did. Otherwise I might not even be here today. 👍

fentanyl patches was hibas post😄im a bit lost

in reply to Sillysausage234

sorry, lol! I realize we were talking about codine but I was just saying that going down the narcotic rabbit hole can be tough to recover from. Codine is far less addicting than fentanyl but getting started on one usually leads to something stronger.

in reply to

At least it did in my case.

good the poster is talking about it ,it’s a good start to admitting it’s become a problem I think she’s aware of this

in reply to Sillysausage234

Absolutely! Admitting it’s a problem is half the battle. 👍

Hello has your doctor mentioned taking propranolol for your anxiety. I used these for about 3 weeks to help manage my anxiety attacks, thinking these may be better for you and may help u cut down the pain meds 💗 speak with your GP sending lots of love xx

ibuprofen also cause kidney damage. As for the codeine you need to speak to your doctor about better way’s to manage your anxiety. I took prescribed codeine for bad pain but only used it when I absolutel needed it and I no longer use pain medication just Tylenol because I have kidney failure on dialysis

I found meds helped my anxiety become more manageable but I continued to have issues, you might spend some time learning how to manage and deal with it. There is a lot of info on youtube about it, I found the DARE Anxiety book and youtube videos helpful and the book At last a life and beyond by Paul David. You might also check out the youtube videos of Paige Pradko for info. If it's possible you might try tapering off the codeine slowly to give you mind and body time to adjust, rather than just abruptly quitting.

Don't quit all together take. Less and less everyday and replace it with something always do that. Replace it with something else and it will help u get out easier message me
