I have had depression for over a year now. There hasn't been anything in particular to make me the way I have been. I find myself getting upset for no reason and I can't control it. I started taking Citalopram 20m last year which didn't make much difference. I tried to change over to Mirtazapine which made me have an absolute meltdown during the changeover so I went back to taking Citalopram but a stronger dose (40m). I normally take them in the morning which has made quite a positive effect during the day time. More recently I have been struggling alot in the evenings. About 3 weeks ago I started taking Mirtazapine 30m in the evenings and touch wood I have improved massively. It's not completely gone but I can really notice the difference. I thought I should make this post to hopefully help someone out, I've suffered for a long time and things are finally starting to improve now

Welcome to the forums! I love hearing good news like this, keep building on these successes!
Glad to hear you are starting to feel better.
I would recommend some therapy alongside the medication. This will help you understand your feelings. Hopefully then you will make a full recovery.
I have been quite lucky with support, nothing came to me, I have spent alot of time finding it but it has definitely helped. My medications are pretty high doses but at least I am coping well now and I can hopefully work my way off them later down the line
When they changed your meds, did the do a slow, wean-down protocol or simply switch? They should have lowered the citalopram slowly while slowly adding and upping the mirtazapine. If they didn't, that may be why you had the meltdown. I have had similar reactions when weaning down too slowly. For me, mirtazapine at night is my absolute I will never (as of now ;-)) go off of med. It is the only thing that knocked me out of the worst depression I'd ever had. Fingers crossed that you continue to see improvement! And if they suggest going off the citalopram (or any other med) again, insist that they follow a super-slow weaning down protocol. Good luck!
I was meant to be cutting down on the Citalopram, it was about a week of taking half dose when I had the meltdown. That kind of showed it was helping in some way so I stayed on it but went to the strongest one. Yeah defo fingers crossed! Thank you
