“If you can’t fly, then run; if you can’t run, then walk; if you can’t walk, then crawl; but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.”~ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (“Keep Moving from This Mountain,” speech at Spelman College, April 10, 1960)

Keep Moving Forward
I found a pdf of the speech you quoted from. Dr. King quoted Langston Hughes. Maybe you'll enjoy the poem.
Mother to Son
by Langston Hughes
Well, son, I’ll tell you:
Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.
It’s had tacks in it,
And splinters,
And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor—
Bare;
But all the time
I’se been a’climbin’ on,
And reachin’ landin’s,
And turnin’ corners,
And sometimes goin’ in the dark,
Where there ain’t been no light.
So boy, don’t you turn back;
Don’t you sit down on the steps,
’Cause you finds it’s kinder hard;
Don’t you fall now—
For I’se still goin’, honey,
I’se still climbin’,
And life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.
Love the truth and wisdom of Dr.King, what a incredible human being he was.
I appreciate this but there’s a part of me that feels like this is one of those easier said than done things. I feel like I’m in a space where I’m not even sure what “keep moving forward” looks like exactly. I’m just depressed and unmotivated and just have days where I’m just like “well, it’s what it is.” It’s a bit unsettling how I am constantly in a space of not caring about the consequences that come with my staying “stagnant”. How exactly do you keep keeping on when you have zero drive?
i agree, easier said than done. I also think motivation comes and goes, is probably better some days than others. Look for those little victories even when they’re microscopic.
