Back On Fluexotine..

Hi everyone, I was on fluexotine for 10 years and amitriptyline for the past year. I weaned off them earlier this year. My daughter left home for university in September and I felt really low and empty then I got covid last month and my mental health went down hill so fast.

My gp put me back on fluexotine 10mg 11 days ago and I feel absolutely awful. I know it takes a while to kick in but the side effects are horrendous. I take it around 11am and by 1.30 I'm shaking and have a fuzzy head and a horrible empty nervous feeling with dizziness. I'm really worried.

The effects seem to wear off around 5pm but all I do is lay on the sofa wondering if I'm having a breakdown. I do force myself to take my dog for a walk every day but can't wait to get home even though the house is empty.

I'm wondering if I should speak to my gp or put up with it for a while longer, or maybe take the fluexotine at night instead.

Thanks for listening xx

Just wanted to add.. I do have good friends and family but just don't feel like talking to anyone most days.

hello. I was prescribed fluoxetine as well. It has been years since it was first given to me, so I am not sure how my own body reacted to the medication at first. I know it takes a while to get used to new medicines, but if you are really concerned, you should talk to your gp about what you are experiencing. It is important that you let your providers know how the medicine is affecting you. For now, you may want to take part in activities that you like that can help you become healthier. I enjoy walking my dogs as well as it gives me time to clear my mind. Journaling also helps. I hope this reply is helpful and I wish you well!

Thanks for your reply bookskeepmecompany.. I spoke to my gp this morning and he's taken me off the fluexotine because of the shaking (tremors). He's going to do blood tests and go from there as he's not sure if it's the meds or not. I'm sure it is. X

hello! i’ve been on fluoxetine 40mg for maybe like a year or two and i had recently increased to 60mg and the side effects for a week or two was insane. i had experienced severe nausea and headaches and my psychiatrist had said the side effects are normal for a few weeks or two. so maybe by the 14 day mark if you noticed you still have the symptoms maybe call the doctor! i think it’s good that you make yourself take the dog for a walk! i hope the side effects get better ❤️

Hi_xoffmod..It's 6 days now since coming off them and the tremors and fast heartbeat have calmed down. It was an horrendous time and I've never felt anything like it. Had a bad 'shaking session' yesterday, it started in my belly and went to my legs and I just cried which made me feel slightly better.

Had a pretty bad crying session this morning but not much shaking. My gp wants me to call on Thursday to get the results of my blood tests and to tell him how I'm feeling. I think maybe I'm sensitive to meds too.

Hope you're ok? 💜

I have been taking fluoxetine for more than 25 years. I find that I can only take 10 mg every other day. It adds to my anxiety if I take more. I am very sensitive to meds and even though this has helped me in the past, it isn’t as effective now. My dr has tried other meds, but all had bad side effects.

You seem like you’re very sensitive like I am. I can only take a tiny amount. I am doing better, but I have my ups and downs. Trying to push through and accept and find my calm space. Being thankful is helpful always.

I wish you peace and blessings ❤️🕊️
