I have been struggling with Trypophobia for as long as I can remember. I realize this is probably irrational to some, but it causes me extreme anxiety and upset. Does anyone have any advice on how to cope with the symptoms of anxiety and triggers?

Hi CWeb1814. I'd like to Welcome you to a safe and understanding site.

Truthfully, I had never heard of Trypophobia until today. I did some research

on it so I can better understand what you have been experiencing. I then realized

my fascination for the honeycomb as well as other visual simulations.

I do understand for you, it brings on anxiety symptoms. I read that CBT, Medication

and Relaxation Techniques may help some with this issue. What have you tried during

your life with this issue? I'm glad you are here with us. We learn from each other each

and every day. I hope you can get the answers you are looking for. We care :) xx

Hello there. Thank you for the response. Yes, things like honeycomb, showerheads, sponges, skin problems and a host of other things with small holes trigger a panic attack. I read somewhere that people with this fear also have general anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, and or bipolar disorder. I happen to experience all three of these things. I currently take anxiety medication and see a therapist. I have tried relaxation techniques and breathing exercises, but once I am in full panic attack, it's hard to control my anxiety. I have read that CBT can be an effective treatment for this, but I have not practiced this. I will mention this to my therapist the next time we speak.

Thank you again for responding. It feels really good to share my experiences with everyone. It is good to know that someone cares. 😀

hi there...i didnt know what this was either..maybe if you help explain to us it may lighten your load.Panic in any form is hard. Many triggers...it depends on the person and reason. Possible to be paniced over more than one thing. reading movies etc, close places some toxic peolple can be it.Covid actually gave people permission to stay home. it is a minute at a time and thank you for sharing.

Hello there. Thank you for the response. Trypophobia involves the fear of small holes, particularly when they are clustered together. Things like honeycomb, sponges, certain flowers, rashes and food repulse me. When I see these objects, I have panic attacks, my skin itches, and I experience extreme anxiety. I end up crying hysterically because of the uneasiness I feel when I see these objects. It affects me socially and professionally as I was unable to help a client because the dots on her sweater triggered me. I feel like it has gotten worse over time. I know exposure therapy is supposed to help with phobias, but the thought of it sends me into a panic attack.

Again, thank you for responding. I really appreciate it and I'm glad I joined this group.

Best

My granddaughter had a sensory phobia especially with sensors on toilets, etc... My daughter was able to find a therapist that treated it among other things but it did take exposure therapy for my granddaughter to get over it.

Hi there!

I guess I have trypophobia too because those things bother me as well. Almost grotesque to look at. As far back as I can remember I’ve had it. Have you discussed it with your therapist?
