Earlier today one of the small lizard creatures who are abundant in my yard got into the house and ran under the clothes dryer after one of the dogs started chasing him.
They are very hard to catch.
I left the back door open as well as the door to the laundry room; I figured he would follow the sunlight and find his way out.
Hours passed and I just happened to notice him crawling out from under the dryer, long after I had shut the back door, thinking he had escaped earlier.
I was able to nudge him out of the house, gently with a paper plate. He got free, finally, and was unharmed.
Soooo...
I didn't try to over control the situation by moving the clothes dryer to try to catch the lizard. This quite possibly would have hurt/killed him. So I was calm, patient and gave the problem time to solve itself.
I knew what to do when I saw him again. I was gentle. It worked because I believed it would work.
The lizard got free to be outside again on a beautiful day because I was able to help him.
I worry a lot, about my job, my health, the future, the environment, etc. At least today I was able to save the life of a small, beautiful creature. That feels good.
