Taking meds but no therapy?

Hey everyone!

Therapy and medication have always gone hand in hand for me. I am now coming up to a huge move several states away and my therapist will not be able to see me any longer (no state license in the state I am going to). She suggested seeing how I did with no therapy (doing well now, just seeing her every two weeks or month depending on how I feel) but to continue meds.

Does anyone do this? I feel stable on my meds but it sounds so foreign that I wouldn’t be in therapy at the same time.

Also, I currently go to a town psychiatrist clinic for my meds. My new location doesn’t have one, in fact I could only find one psychiatrist in town. Does anyone get their depression/anxiety meds from a regular doctor? If so, how does it work? I have to check in every two months for a drug test and talk to the psychiatrist before she will refill anything.

so many changes are coming! I am trying to stay calm and research what I can. Any info you guys have would be great.

Yes but I have structure in place. I do regular self care such as exercise, nutrition, and breathing. My provider is the type that spends and hour with you. Also I do know to enlist a therapist when I need it before things go totally off the rails. If you are in a good place and have a good plan then I think you should go for it.

Thank you for sharing. I am nervous to find a new therapist. We all know that there are ones you click with and ones you just don’t. I suppose I can do some research to find one before I move.

Thank you again.

Check out Sondermind. They used to be in just a few states now they appear to be everywhere. They take some insurance too. They have fairly good profiles. You can switch really easily if they aren't a fit. You don't even have to tell the therapist. Just Sondermind.

i actually stopped seeing the physician with my psychologist's recommendation and it's working fine.

Yes, I tapered off slowly from seeing my therapist and it's been fine. i still take my antidepressant and it's prescribed by my functional medicine nurse practitioner.

I believe states in the US have different criteria as to who can prescribe psych meds which could give you more options depending on your state.
