What are your impressions on alernative medicine? I need to note i'm not doing it blindly - my mother is a pharmasist and i'm a psychology student and i have solid knowledge on this stuff. Just wondering whether i should Invest in these things and what you think about them, do you have experience, what works for you?

Disclaimer : It's just an add-ing to regular meds and therapy

I think Valerian root is where they get the base compound for Valium, though I'm not 100% sure on that. So it could help with anxiety. Also my wife, who has moderate to severe anxiety, has had great success with supplements containing GABA. You can do some research, but I believe it enhances the brain's receptiveness to seretonin. She uses it to supplement her Sertraline prescription, and they seem to work well together. Just some suggestions, not sure about the other ones you mentioned. Anyway, wishing you luck.

Thanks for sharing. It might work to me too. Hope your wife is doing good. And here everyone drinks valerian root, basically If someone gets nervious here others tell them "go for a valerian"

caution. Valerian is known to increase hypomania. It is also addictive. If you aren’t bipolar and you don’t mind addiction… meds are addictive. Point is just because it is “natural “ doesn’t mean it is safer. The difference is there are not as many studies for a most of it. That said there are some that do have research. I do pay attention to those and decide based on efficacy and safety. I don’t think I have seen anything for mood disorders that fit those requirements. In most cases it seems like they are more placebo. That actually isn’t a bad thing. There are scientists researching how to leverage it as “alternative “.

Tbh the reason there isn’t much is because successful treatment is wholistic. Your brain isn’t fixed with a pill. Ever. Just like a broken leg isn’t fixed with a cast. You have to exercise in both cases. You might have to learn different skills or mindset. Feeling a bit philosophical today. :)

all that said… vitamin D is worthwhile especially if you don’t get a ton of sun. We don’t think of non chemical things as “treatment “ but they are. What if you flip the script on some of those activities who do have a ton of evidence?

I'm taking it occasionally, If a panic attack happens. I'm not bipolar and i don't get addicted, i'm prescribed really addictive things like Clonasepam, and yet i try to avoid it. I'm fully aware the most part is mental but it happens really slow and my psychiatrist says i somatize a lot so i need to regulate my body to bear therapy. But really i know it's holistic and everything is connected and i do a lot of mental work therapy, mindfulness, meditations, cbt exercises, books, pmr, breath work, physical exercises

sounds like you know what you are doing. a lot of people hear about it and think it is safer than a pill. They forget there are plants that will kill you... some even live in your kitchen.
