I've been having extreme anxiety and depression lately - just got back on Lexapro. My brain won't shut off at night so I don't sleep - or I'll fall asleep and then bolt awake at 3 or 4 in the morning and can't get back to sleep. This has not been an issue for me in the past. Its been going on for the last 2 weeks or so, and I feel so weak I'm having a hard time functioning.
Has this happened to anyone else, and if so, what was the outcome? Did it eventually go away where you wouldn't wake up in a panic? I just started a new job and I'm afraid I'm not going to do very well or have to take a leave of absence because I'm so distracted and depressed.

Some of my worst panic attacks come from waking up into them, nasty business.
I always had trouble sleeping, even when I was a kid. A couple of years ago I began taking Mirtazapine at bedtime along with melatonin and now I have a regular schedule, less nightmares and am a bit healthier.
Sleep is so important to your well-being, I'd chat with your doctor about this.
Oh yeah- I also keep a routine, I like to listen to audiobooks or white noise when I'm working on getting sleepy. They help me turn off my brain until I pass out.
