Panic attack help

Hi this is my first post here. I’m diagnosed with panic disorder and depression. My panic attacks have gotten so bad lately that they completely incapacitate me and have turned my life upside down. This trend has made me so depressed that I have little hope for my future and being able to control these attacks. I am not suicidal but I am afraid if these attacks continue I will see no other option in the future. I am on meds from my psychiatrist and receive therapy. Any comments are appreciated

NewYork2, first of all let me Welcome you to an amazing forum. We never judge,we listen and support because we understand and care. I'm glad you are here.

Medication and Therapy are the first steps in going forward. We must eventually

break that cycle of fear begets fear or we get no where.

I use Meditation & Breathing first thing upon awakening, midafternoon and before bed.

When used on a daily basis, we tend to retrain our brain to a more positive frame of mind.

It takes practice and time, usually 30 days before you start to experience some changes.

You must believe that you can and will leave your symptoms behind one day, when the time

is right for you. We can't wish it away and we can't fear it. Accepting our Anxiety and Fears

and allowing it to run it's course is the beginning of the end of that anxiety.

Not wanting to overwhelm you, continue coming on this site, knowing that you will learn

from other's experiences with mental health issues. Take what works for you and discard

the rest. We all respond differently. You've just taken that first step towards healing :) xx

Thank you so much for the detailed response. Breathing normally doesn’t work but a guided meditation with my therapist did work very well once during a panic attack so I might try a meditation app.

Breathing is the key to changing your body's response to stress. But start with what works for you so you don't get discouraged.

We are here to help you through each step you take.

Everyone relates their own experiences in reaching their goals.

I wish you well. We are but a message away. :) xx

Hey newbie!

I had a panic attack a few days ago so I know how you feel and what you're going through.

I know they feel like they may be the death of you but let me say to you that anxiety is a liar.

Look at your track record, you have survived all your panic attacks. Yes, they can be a pain in the @$$ cause you might get dizzy, feel like losing control of yourself, going crazy, going to die etc. If you need to lie down then do it and just ride the 🌊. You'll be in calm seas again.

Practice mindfulness and breathing exercises. Some of us have little things that help us. Like I have a stuff animal that I squeeze when I'm going through it. Along with an app I listen to for reassurance. You can find a lot of videos on YouTube.

There's a difference between anxiety attack and panic attack. Anxiety tends to build on itself. Like if you're worried about something eventually it'll become big enough to give you an attack. Panic attacks tend not to have a root cause. But some do. You should look into yourself and find out what it is that upsets you. I also recommend keeping a journal and write down your thoughts even the anxious ones. Go through it logically and break down those intrusive thoughts. Know that thoughts are just thoughts and they won't hurt you. Tell your thoughts to go🤬themselves.

Sometimes I watch old TV shows to get back into a calm state. I like watching Becker on Pluto Tv.

Like I said you got plenty of friends here who are dealing with it just like you. I, myself included. Im not always successful at defusing and I get angry at my anxiety and I want it to go away.

Someday we will get there to remission ❤️ be well 🙏🏽

I have severe panic attacks, I like to call them terror attacks because I become so scared, I want to run or hide but sometimes that doesn’t help. I compare my panic attacks to someone running barefoot in gravel from a person you know is going to hurt you, they are in a car and going to run you over, the fear that the person going through this is what I feel just out of the blue sometimes there are causes but most of the time it’s irrational and I know it but can’t stop it, I’ve suffered a good 40 years I can’t drive on the highway can’t go over bridges. It horrible
