It’s the middle of the night and I’m having bad tooth pain! I’ve been having a lot of problems with my teeth lately. I’ve had a lot of work done on my teeth. And I had nerve damage and acupuncture helped that. Now I’m having more pain from possibly more enamel problems. I’m scared about how bad this can get. Is there any pain meds I can take that work otc or prescription.

Dental Pain
I’m sorry to hear about your pain. It always comes at the worse time. I don’t know much about nerve damage or pain relief for it. Some suggestions may be advil, ice pack, orajel (if it’s pain coming from mouth).
What I would probably do is take a benedryl to fall asleep and deal with it the next morning if possible.
If it’s too much pain, it would be worth going to urgent care or hospital
Thank you for responding. I’m very scared about how bad this can get. I had already gone to the ER and they only really prescribed ibuprofen that didn’t do much for the pain. I’m going to have to have more extensive work and maybe dentures. This is all so bad for me. Please pray for me ok?
Tooth pain is really... not having a good word for it. Once my root died and hurt extremely! I didn't know it yet untill I went for an urgent call to the dentist. In the mean time, I got codeine. But here docter don't prescribe that easily, because it can get addictive. Not for me though, I don't see the point in taking more of that than needed, but this depends on the person. Ibuprofen didn't do much either and I wasn't allowed to take it anyway. That's how I got it.
Paracetemol, way easier to get, normally doesn't do much either. I barely take it, but it does help with tooth pain I noticed. It also says on the package it helps with nerve pain. Paracetemol goes different about pain relief than ibuprofen, so for other things I'd rather take ibuprofen, but for tooth ache paracetemol is fine too for me.
But really, if it hurst so much, you should see a dentist quick. Not a normal consult, but call in for something urgent.
I have multiple teeth that are braking down and getting worse. I’m worried about how extensive the treatment is going to be and whether the treatments are covered. paracetamol is actually Acetaminophen or Tylenol. I will have to see if that helps. Thank for responding.
Ah, I feel for you. It's hard to start doing something about it, I know about it! But I can tell you, at some point you can't evade it anymore and have to go anyway. So the sooner the better. Even if lots have to be done, it can be done bit by bit if at once is too much. A start is a start and a start means at least something is NOT getting worse, but better. I hope you find the courage to go to a dentist soon! If you're really afraid, you can try searching for dentist whom are able to deal with patients with a lot of fear. Those kind of dentist are less rushing and are better able to attend to your needs (within boundaries of course), while still being able to do their job. The heaviest thing which can be done, is subduing you 100%, so you have no experience of whatever happens in your mouth and wake up done. This is extreme though, can be expensive and I don't know how that works with insurance in your country.
Just some tips!
Can’t your dentist prescribe something? That isn’t even a visit if they have seen you. It must be absolutely miserable. Are you eating soups? When I had regular back pain Tylenol with codeine worked the best. At least it made it possible to relax and sleep. I wouldn’t think ibuprofen would work well because this isn’t muscle.
