I am new here. Decided to try this out. Looking for ideas on how others cope with their own anxiety. I know it's not an easy road to travel...by no means. It's exhausting and a lonely road.

Hi. Welcome to the forum. There are a lot of good ideas here. Unfortunately, my mind is empty right now. 😬 But things will come back around and I will share what I have tried. I just need a little time to come back to myself.

Good job for posting here! 💚

It definitely gets difficult. At times, almost intolerable. What helps me is to try to take a moment out of every day to just do something that truly makes me happy or relaxed. It can give you something to look forward to and sometimes even elevate anxiety.

Hi from the not so sunny UK!I think for anxiety there are things you can do to help. Exercise (just a 30 minute walk) can work really well and doing anything that makes your brain switch off from the anxiety and onto something else. I do quiz games, counting back from 100 in 3's, sometimes write about memories and think what I am writing - just get your mind working on something other than anxiety.

For panic attacks and really intrusive anxiety, for me only medication works and although effective they take quite some time to work - but they do work. I think having an open and frank discussion with your Dr (as well as family and friends) is a really good place to start.

Wishing you all the best with this and a happy 2022

Welcome! First off- my first suggestion is to read “ Hope and Help for your Nerves” by Claire Weekes. Always my first suggestion. Other helps: meditation, praying, exercise, journaling- especially a gratitude journal, keeping busy with house, volunteering somewhere, taking Vit D, C, zinc, eliminating most sugars, caffeine and processed foods, drinking red tea, stop watching the news, the list can go longer if you have panic attacks, but you didn’t mention that. Good luck! Find peace within yourself.

Thank you for the suggestion on the book !!!! I read a lot about anxiety and the dreaded panic attacks..(which I get quite often) .I do keep quite busy during the day, am not the type of person to sit and do nothing. I go for walks a couple times during the day.

Really appreciate your input !! Also, thank you for the welcome to this group !!!

🙂🙂

Going for walks, doing the Wim Hof guided 3 rounds breathing exercises before meals. Free on you tube. A cool 5 minute shower rinse after your shower.

I read this once : anxious people fear the feeling of fear. What do you think about this ?

I am currently feeling that way. It’s not fun. But I have an awesome therapist and support system.

Many people with an anxiety disorder have stopped daring to HOPE for more than just simply getting through the day !!!

I understand. I try to keep very busy with trying to learn new crafts. It seems if I keep my hands busy it takes things off my mind.

Meditation, guided meditations (YouTube has them for everything) mindfulness practices, relaxation, progressive relaxation (where you tense then release muscles) breathing practices.

I read this today ! It is written by... Russell Kennedy M.D. Many of us have anxiety because WE gave to others before ourselves. We are called highly sensitive people, empaths and people-pleasers. WE lost touch with what WE needed because WE perceived our survival was predicated on someone else being okay.

Many of us are good at giving other people care and attention, but the sense of what WE ourselves need has atrophied from disuse. WE adopted caregiving roles and honed them because it gave us a sense of power in situations where WE otherwise felt powerless or immobilized.

Over time WE lost touch with ourselves. When you lose touch with yourself, you are like a cork bobbing in the waves of the ocean at the whim of external forces, unable to find your own port.

This sums up exactly how I feel !!!!
