I have been on venlafaxine for 3 weeks now with no improvement in symptoms if anything I feel worse. I am fully aware can take time as have been on several antidepressants over the years
Not sure whether to stop or persevere.
Just want to feel human again.

How severe are your side effects? What does your dr say? It takes me 4 to 6 weeks until a med takes effect. The wait is miserable, even with minimal side effects. If you're feeling more depressed, that doesn't sound good. Talk to dr and read up on the med Venlafaxine is one of my meds.
More than likely your anxiety is blowing your thinking and perceptions out of proportion and increasing your feelings of depression and it feels like crap. I know it's difficult but try to relax some, be kind to yourself and give your body and mind the time and care for the changes to take place.
Hi, after 8 years on Duloxetine it started to be ineffective so I asked my GP to change my medication. He put me on Mirtazapine and it took about 7 weeks to start working, far longer than I anticipated. I spoke to my GP by phone and he said to give it a bit longer and good enough they are now working. One big problem, just as I started going out and socialising I got Omicron virus over Christmas and New year. It was only mild but the isolating knocked me. Trying to get back on track but have no energy and feel lethargic, I must keep trying as too easy to become house bound. Take care x
Hi my darling so sorry it’s taken me days to hopefully help with your dilemma. I’ve been on Venlafaxin for quite a number of years now. Yes it is perfectly normal to feel worse after starting on them. It took a wee while to get me on a dose that worked for me. If you still feel unsure speak to your GP or even the Pharmacist. Hopefully they’ll be able to reassure you. You have to give them a chance as it can sometimes take a wee while before you start to feel normal again. If you’ve been taking them for a while now you might possibly need your dosage tweaked. I felt horrendous on initial start but persisted then I felt a wee bit better then very quickly dipped. The GP then increased my dose. The same pattern went on until I was on the correct dose for me. Everyone is different so no big standard dose suits everyone. They are also good if you are getting near the menopause as they definitely help reduce some symptoms. I definitely get up and feel I can face the day! Please let us know how you get on. Sending you big hugs and love 🍀❤️😘xx
