For those of us struggling/dealing with these, how do you cope and prepare for situations that induce panic?

Mostly every time I leave the house I have panic attacks. I hate that this stops me from doing things that I used to love.

I’m going to a concert in a few weeks and I’m trying to get myself mentally prepared so I don’t panic all night.

I have an exit strategy in place and some things that help are carrying my xanax with me and an essential oil roller ball. I can’t wear clothes that are too tight, or sometimes being really hot can trigger me too.

What have you noticed to trigger you and how do you work to avoid it?

Hi dear xI use to be the same and like you I would have an exit strategy to not cause

too much attention. I would normally sit at the end of the row. It didn't make

me feel so boxed in. A xanax would always be in purse but never had to use it

but one time.

I'd always have my water with as well. I found that controlling my breathing

could help keep me from hyperventilating as well as lowering my adrenaline levels.

Sometimes chewing a piece of gum would keep my muscles moving and my mind

focused on the taste.

In a movie theater, I'd close my eyes if there were a rapid succession of flashing lights

which could get me going. As for the loud sounds, put ear buds in your ears if you

are sensitive.

Try to focus on why you are there and enjoy the performance.

Last but not least, make sure you have a little something to eat before going as low

blood sugar can prompt some symptoms to appear.

Let us know how it went. Wishing you well :) xx

Hi Theloudone,

Mastery of panic is incredibly hard and it sounds like you are really working hard on it.

I recently found a very good book which walks you through a treatment programme. It's called 'Master your Panic and Anxiety' and is part of the 'Treatments that work' series. Get the workbook aversion. It is full of useful tips and advice.

Personally I have found venlaphaxine very helpful also.

All the best, X
