A rock I painted a few years ago (2017, I think). He is a hedgehog and his name is Herbie. His likes: comfy chairs and good books. Dislikes: loud noises and rude people. I used to leave these painted rocks around town for people to find, but my wife couldn't part with Herbie!

I don’t blame her. Herbie is pretty darn adorable. And who doesn’t want to pass a little time curled up in a comfy chair with a good book and their pet hedge-rock…

It was a wonderful thing you did, hiding these around town. I can only imagine the joy they brought people. What a thoughtful way to bring a little softness to people when they least expect it.

Thanks. We were out walking around one day and we found a painted rock. It was part of a social media thing where you would post a pic of the rock you found and then re-hide it somewhere. I thought it was a cool idea, but I wanted people to just keep the ones I hid. I ended up doing 8 or 9 of them. Hid most of them, but one or two are still at home. I'm thinking of doing another couple to hide when the weather gets better.

Thanks! I'm thinking of doing some more for the spring. I'll be sure to post them if/when I do.

He's gorgeous! And what a lovely thing to do, leaving them for people to find🤗

Thanks! I usually leave them on walking paths and in local parks. I seal them with U/V protecting top coat so they can handle some time laying outside, in case they're not picked up right away.

Herbie is a cutie pie. Such a lovely gesture to leave it for others to delightfully find.

Herbie is lovely. No wonder your wife wants to keep him. I've started painting stones., I'm not very good yet, but I'm going to have a go at making a Herbie.

Thanks! I did like 8 or 9 of them. I paint the whole thing white to "prime" them, then acrylic paint. Last is a couple layers of Krylon UV sealant to protect them. I usually let each layer sit overnight to dry completely before adding another layer. Just be careful, some black markers will run when the Krylon hits them. Not sure why. Maybe do a couple of tests if you're going to be using markers. "Herbie" actually has a Youtube tutorial if you're going to do one.

Dear Rupert,

I have some 'Rock/ Pebble' Friends too, an 'interesting' one a 'Highly Polished Stone'- not by me- that has a Natural Mouth and Eye (I added another one, a 'Drop' of paint). He looks good, I called him 'Flattie', I think. Another is a piece of Ordinary Brick, with some Mortar attached, nothing Special, I just Like it.

I have a picture, in my collection, it is simply a 'Blue Background' with purple/ indigo markings on it... a small Seed Case fell, from a tree, as I was painting it. What a lovely effect

😀.

Amazing what you can Find, isn't it?

Best thing about rock friends is they're very low maintenance! I was an 80's kid, so I had a few "pet rocks". Didn't intend for this one to become a "pet", but once you name something you have to keep it lol.

He is so adorably cute! So nice to leave them around town. You can also have a little business there if you’d like. Happy New Year!

Thanks Midori. I've been super busy, (that time of year I guess), and haven't had time to start a new art project since my Cpt. America. Looking forward to when I have time to do so. I could use a little relaxation, I'm starting to get all twisted up in my thoughts again the last few days. Thanks again.

I want take him to my house!!! Actually my mom and I are considering adopting a dog in January. We need a rambunctious and happy dog we can play with. We're going to start looking in a couple of weeks.

Aww, good for you guys! It breaks my heart to think of all the dogs and cats in shelters that need loving homes. And so nice for you two as well. Just make sure to post a pic of the new doggo whhen you get him! 🐕

I love Herbie. I wouldn't let him go either. I love seeing rocks left by people. I see a lot where I walk. They are all so different and beautiful. However, I've never seen one quite like Herbie
