Changing medication

Hi, I’ve just come off a high dose of sertraline, after five years, and gone on to a start up dose of mirtazapine. Now I feel like I’m on amphetamines, is this normal?

Hello Isin!Unfortunately it is normal. I would give your dr some feedback because perhaps they could adjust your dose to better control these symptoms. I took 150mg sertraline for 20 years and this year I was changed to Cymbalta. Serotonin levels changing make you feel freaky. I felt like I was going to have seizures at times like my brain was twitching. Hope this helps but please feel free to reach out at anytime. Have a good weekend!!

Hi thanks for your reply. I wasn't expecting an easy ride making a change but the sertraline didn't seem to be working any more. Will be reviewed in a couple of weeks

Have a good weekend

Hi isin, I presume you're on 15mg? And are taking the mirtrazapine just before going to bed? I must confess I've not been on amphetamines, so I wouldn't no that feeling, however the feeling from mirtrazapine make you feel light headed, and a bit 'drunk' if that's the way to describe it, but these symptoms will pass after a few days once you've adjusted to the tablets, and it's only normally during the night time you'll feel these affects , hence the reason you have to take them at bedtime, I'm on 45mg , and have no problems with them, hopefully this will answer your question, best of luck 👍

Thanks at the moment I don't know if it's the mertazapine or withdrawal from the sertraline.

Yep, definitely the mirtrazapine can make you feel woozy, and I don't know much about your other medication, and if you needed to do a slow withdrawal from that other medication was required, its something I'm unsure about, as with many long term medications sometimes you have to reduce these over a period of time at a lower dose, and maybe this is a cause of your symptoms, but that's only my opinion, but like with anything new, report these problems back with your doctor best of luck 👍

I am just on Sertraline 50 mg for about 3 to 4 weeks. After suffering with depression/anxiety for so long I am hoping and praying this will give some relief. Any thoughts or insights?? I am seeking at least one or more people to email and seek others who have suffered from this awful condition. Thank you for anyone one will contact me to at least

Hi there I started on 50mg and then progressed to 200mg which is the max. It was ok for a few years but recently I felt it wasn't working so well so I asked for a change. It is an awful condition but hopefully you'll get it under control and soon be able to see the sun shine again.

I am just about to move up to 50mg daily. I started at 25mg every other day three weeks ago.

You would need to taper slowly from sertraline and start with very small doses of mirtazapine. There are withdrawal side effects. Mirtazapine needs to start slowly for your body to adjust.
