Hi everyone, I'm new here. When I wake up in the morning I have severe anxiety about facing the day. My thoughts are dire such as I might die. In the past three weeks it has gotten worse. Usually as the day goes on I feel better. I have had anxiety and panic attacks off and on for most of my life and this is the worst. I take Lorazapam as needed and just started on an antidepressant again. Just wondering if anyone else has gone through this.

Severe Anxiety Upon Awakening
Hi I get exactly the same thing not sure why any help would be great
This is something that happens to me more often than not, I have come to expect it, even. Perhaps accept is a better word.
At the start of a new day, it’s easy for our minds to ruminate on what's ahead and we become overwhelmed with negative thoughts about what we need to achieve that day. This can leave us with that dreaded sinking feeling and a high level of anxiety.
There's a scientific reason why anxiety can be so common in the morning. For most of us with anxiety the stress hormone cortisol is highest in the first hour upon waking, helping us to stay alert and focused in the morning.
However, going to bed feeling anxious can cause cortisol levels to spike too early, which might lead you to wake up with a racing mind. Blood sugar levels are also lower first thing in the morning, which can trigger anxiety for those of us who are prone to it.
