I was diagnosed with Bipolar and Depression in May this year. I'm currently taking 150mg Veneflaxine and 200mg Lamotrigine this is my 3rd week on 200mg Lamotrigine and I'm still feeling in a really low mood all I want to do is sleep I have no motivation what so ever. Last week i had a mouth full of blisters which took 5 days to go. Now there back and just as bad my skin has broke out in spots which I never get. Im just stuck on what to do.. My physcatric doctor is calling me Friday for a review.
Any advice on what I should do please? It's making me that stressed that I keep thinking nothing is going to work this is my second mood stabiliser I've tried 😔

Hi there nettles,It’s early days with the meds , it’s perfectly normal to feel like they’re not working or wonder if they’ll work at all especially when you’ve tried other meds before and they haven’t been successful. Just keep at it ,keep talking to your psychiatrist about it too and express your worries. Try if you can to believe it can work , you or your psychiatrist will know a bit more down the track if it’s not the one for you, unless of course side effects are severe then see psychiatrist straight away. Hope this is the one for you 🤞🤗
HiDid the dr start you right off on 200 of lamictal? This led should be started at a low dose and increased. Please give the doctor a call about the spots if they are still there.
Meds take time to work, as we all know. It's trial and error with meds. I have had issues with many. It took a long time to regulate what was best for me. Hang in there... I know that's not helpful as we struggle with this.,, but I just want you to know I can't even count or remember how many I had to go through.
You need to call the doctor immediately lamictrogine has an allergic reaction that sounds like that and can be life threatening
A few years ago the manufacturer changed the high recommended does from 200 to 150 for lamictrogine and depression or bipolar. My doctor at the time kept upping it. My next and current doctor lowered it and it was an improvement. I am not able to lower it anymore. I tried and it made me a sugar head. It was horrible. Lamictal modifies the same area of the brain. I’m probably on it for life.
I've never heard of mouth ulcers with any antidepressant. I'm no professional but you could be having some kind of allergic reaction in which case I think you should contact either your doctor or psychiatrist as soon as possible. Don't wait. Don't be too deflated though. It is true that is very much trial and error with these kind of meds. Mild side effects are not uncommon for a temporary period when starting a new med, but what you described doesn't sound like mild to me.
