I have a lot of nervous energy and I’m constantly biting my nails or smoking. Are there any good habits to take on to take place of these? I need to constantly be doing something

I am the same way! 💁‍♀️ I also pick my skin. Picking my skin is actually my go to. And vaping. Then eating 💁‍♀️🤪 but nail polish helps. That way you can pick at your nail polish. Or putting elmers glue on your hands and picking it off. (Haven’t tried the glue yet, but my case manager loves this one…) put a ring on your finger and turn it. Also holding your hand out, and breathing while using your finger to trace your hand. I am a big fan of acrylic nails as well. They come off in a few days due to picking at them, but better then infected sores all over my skin 🥲 and gum!! Gum is a huge help for me.

Nervous fidgeting. aka "Psychomotor Agitation " very common in Depression , OCD and Bi Polar disorders. Do you have any (physically active) hobbies that you can get involved in to redirect this "energy"? I've had this symptom for a very long time. My own manifests in very often "wiggling " my leg while sitting or laying down watching the Tube. You may be able to still buy "Fidget Spinners " , they're fun.

Does regular exercise help? I have a lot of energy and anxiety and doing some cardio helps for a while but I'm not familiar with the syndrome you all are talking about.

45 minutes of daily cardio exercise to produce endorphins that battle your anxiety and depression is great! Avoid all stimulants too.

I had a terrible uncontrollable habit of clicking my teeth together.I remembered a simple trick for anxiety.

I rubbed my thumb and forefinger together.

It worked!
