Last night, even with hydroxyzine, I could not fall asleep, and I texted my boss and coworkers that I wouldn't be at work (I transport vehicles, and you can't do that on only a few hours of sleep). This isn't the first time, and even though it's part-time, I try to get as many hours as possible. I'm guessing I will lose this job, even though my boss knows I'm a Veteran with disability.
Please offer some encouragement, as my anxiety is really up right now.
I can understand what you are going through as it is similar to my journey. Although not a veteran, I am a paramedic with over 40 years of experience and it has taken a toll on my mental health. Two suggestions that I would have for your, that have helped me deal with my issues is, one find a good healthcare team that includes a counselor and doctor, preferably a psychiatrist. Second, if you feel comfortable in doing so, be honest with your employer. Doing so may help place you in a protected class covered by ADA. I'm not an attorney but this might help protect your job.
I have a great doctor and psychotherapist, and have an appointment next week with a new psychiatrist, mainly regarding medication management. And the employer knows. I'm pleased to report that there were no adverse texts in reply to my early morning texts. I do my best to keep the boss informed of everything. That comes from my Army experience, where I had plenty of micromanagers that didn't take my health issues seriously and thought I was a shammer. That was, until the medical providers stepped in to validate my claims.
