Hello new on here. So I'll get straight to it. About 4 weeks ago I was diagnosed with AF (Atrial Fibrillation) My Doctor put me on beta blockers and eventually Blood thinners and blood pressure tablets. I am 52 and everything was fine for about 2 weeks. I was off sick from work when out of nowhere I just got all anxious really bad. Lasted all day sweating, couldn't be on my own. Got an ambulance out to me once when left alone in the house it got so bad. Doctor has put me on 2mg Diazepam which is helping. I don't sleep to well at night. I am assured by my Doctor that I am on the correct medication and if I continue to take them as instructed I should be Ok. But what I don't understand is where this anxiety has come from, its really upsetting my days and I am due back at work next Tuesday.

Bad Anxiety
Hi fatchap69, Welcome to this great support site.
Know that you are in good hands with your doctor. He speaks the truth when he says
you will be okay if you take your meds and follow his directions.
As for Anxiety, it can seem to appear out of no where however, anytime there is a change
in our lives, we are more vulnerable to stress and anxiety. Once you settle into the new
format in living with AFib, your anxiety should settle down.
I live the mirrored life you have except for Anxiety.. I feel fantastic, follow doctor's orders
and do Meditation and Breathing each day. You're going to be okay. Glad you are here with us. xx
Thank you for the welcome and help. I never knew anxiety could be so debilitating. Aching legs and arms, I think its possible and quite a few of my family agree its probably the return to work that is causing it, I have quite a hard job, plenty of heavy lifting so thats probably whats at the back of my mind but its not all together clear to me if you get what I am saying. 52 years old and discovering you have to be on medication for the rest of your life is a bit of punch in the guts.
Hi there, I can’t believe your post it’s like talking about my self, mine started with bad bout of palpitations, a couple of months ago, i went to Dr next day he did an ECG , bloods BP etc, all ok , put me on beta blockers, which helped, then I started to get bad really bad anxiety and like shivery and shaky I couldn’t cope with anything, back to Dr , tried two lots of antidepressants which made me so sick I couldn’t eat or function, and had to have another emergency Drs appointment, eventually they gave me 2mg diazepam which does help .
, but like you where has this come from , thankfully I’m older and retired from work but at the moment this anxiety is ruling my life., I do have a chronic pain disease which is very difficult to cope with, maybe your A fib has affected you the same way
Do you mind me asking how much diazepam are you on at the moment, Dr gave me one twice a day to start, I’ve got a follow up appointment tomorrow .
I do hope yours settles down, as Agora says I find deep breathing really helpful
Thanks for the reply, I'm on 2mg as required up to 3 times a day. Its not been so bad today so far, trying to keep myself busy. Keeping the brain occupied seems to help. But Its powerful and always seems to get me at some point during the day.
I agree with Agora. Personal experience with heart disease and all the life saving drugs given to me, once I got past the initial strangeness of it all and it became more familiar, the anxiety leveled out. It became more doable. My first run in with those health issues popped up when I was 46. I’m 70 now. I, too had to go back to work, which was very physical, but with all the advancement in treatment of heart problems, you should have a long and very functional life.❤️🏄♀️
