Trapped in an elevator

Hey guys. Anyone else experience that?

The elevator did not open the doors at my floor. Instead it went to the top floor and then back to the bottom floor. It repeated in that cycle.

I wasn’t in there for long (less than 15 minutes) because eventually I pressed the call button and was advised to press my floor button again. Then, the elevator doors opened and it was fine. I’m okay.

Obviously, not a fun experience. It’s been like 3 hours since it happened and I still feel very stressed. I think having anxiety just makes experiences like this so much worse. Overall, I feel silly for having such a problem with it.

Anyways, if it happens to you, I would just advise you press the call button as soon as anything sus happens. It’s best to already be on the phone with someone and it not be a big deal... compared to waiting and being panicked/crying/frozen :) (just for them to tell you to press a button again lol)

Hi. It happened to me once too at work long time ago. My hospital’s elevator was old and I was stuck in the middle of the night. I think the guard must be asleep as I tried to press on call button but no answer 🤷‍♀️. Fortunately, I had my cellular with me so I called my coworker to go to security office to come out and release me. 😂😅 It was quite a trip as I’m compassionate with what you just went through. Best wishes. 🙏

I’m glad you were able to get out and had your coworker there to help! My elevator was older and at a hospital as well. Thank you!

I am especially thankful for cell phones after this too! 😆😊

Dear PastelPink20,

Firstly... what a lovely 'name'....

Yes I have been Trapped, once abroad- in Tenerife- for close on forty minutes.... about eight of us, on the way down to Breakfast. Yes we Pushed the 'Emergency' Button, a Spanish voice kept answering 'Uno Memento' (one minute).

In our case, we 'Forced The Doors Open', and all jumped- about eighteen inches- to the floor. The Dinning Staff, got Short Shift, when they Told us we were 'Late Down'... yes we DID all get served.... I can Assure you...

Our Group consisted of several different Nationalities however, we 'got on', really well- for the rest of the Holiday.... language No Problem😊 (after all a Smile, Drink, some Food and so on, is the Same the World over.) I once had a 'wonderful' Conversation, with a Greek Man- on the Island of Rhodes- me speaking No Greek and he No English- did it 'matter'? not ONE 'Bit'!

'They' Say that 'Over Seventy Percent Of Communication, Is Non-Verbal'... and, based on my Experience- notwithstanding being Stuck In Lifts, maybe 'They' are Right🤷‍♂️.

I heard of that happening to someone, but it never occurred to me.

Yes I was stuck in a very small elevator with to other men, Very very tight.

I hit the call button and was laughed at by the hotel staff. Any way I was panicking after about 30 min of the staff at the hotel trying to reset the elevator I called 911 they were there in about 15 min. It took them about 10 min to break through the door. Close to an hour in this elevator. There was a small vent at floor level I was sucking air though the vent 😁 not funny at the time but thinking back it was kinda funny. I’ve gotten over the fear of elevator to some degree. I still get a little nervous taking them.

I wasn't stuck inside the elevator, the elevator doors shut on my body! There was an old woman inside who didn't know what to do. I don't know how long I was in there, I have spinal stenosis and spondylosis and degenerative discs, so my back was killing me, a woman on the outside tried to pull the door open, no luck. Finally, I think the older woman inside hit the Open Door button. Thank God. My ribs and back were bruised. I kept my appointment and didn't go to the ER. So the hospital (It happened at our local hospital) said it never happened. I had the bruises but since I didn't report it, and I should have taken the people's names who witnessed this. It is so frustrating to try to argue with a corporation! Our local hospital sends people who are near dying to another hospital.

That’s true! I usually do use stairs. It just depends on how my knees are doing and I hasn’t been in that hospital building before 😅🤔

Yes, I was just worried about being stuck. I didn’t think it was going to fall / cables brake.

It was a whole learning experience. Thanks!
