I really dont like that phrase. Never have. Stresses me out. I read that it originated from a nasa mission control guy. I can see how he felt that way, but still, not my cup of tea. Reminds me of work and people expecting so much of me. I get anxiery about my job on a regular basis. Does it stress anyone else out? What do you think about the phrase? Thanks.

Failure is not an option
I like the phrase in certain contexts but I understand how it can provoke anxiety as it leads to expectations and feelings of guilt or anguish if we feel we are not making progress. So I think it has it's places but it's kind of up to the situation.
Hello TailWags ! Hope you're feeling alright at the moment. I can imagine how it must be to try and perform well at the job against the backdrop of anxiety. If you don't mind sharing, what is it about the job that makes you anxious ? I am originally from Asia, so for us sometimes failure really was not an option; or rather that is how it felt :-(..
How are you?
I think this phrase depends on the situation but one thing for sure, it puts so much pressure, enxiety is inevitable. Some people though live by this and it mostly perfectionist. Those people puts so much pressure on themselves that they are never happy. I don't like it either, a person who lives like this is never happy but they do get the results at the end.
I totally agree with you. It would make you feel really bad if you did not succeed at something very harsh phrase. How about put in your best effort instead?
I was also put under pressure at work. I was expected to do my work in the same allotted time even though my co-worker had cried off due to Covid fears. The workload had vastly improved. I got so much harassment I had to leave, so I can sympathise with you
