Coping Mechanisms

Hi everyone! I'm new to this group and I have been struggling with depression and panic attacks recently and the longer this continues the more hopeless I feel. I can't eat without throwing up and I feel like I can't get out of bed or take care of myself. I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to feel better or cope with the constant depression and anxiety.

I find that music helps something relaxing or a cup of tea. Deep breathing and maybe a snack. Sometimes I pace around the house. Mindfulness exercises are helpful

Hi Green111,Welcome to the forum! I am sorry to hear that you are struggling at the moment. Are you currently seeing a therapist or on any medications?

The trick to anxiety is to stay positive. Never, ever, let anxiety win by feeling hopeless. Even if you accomplish one good thing a day. That one thing can sometimes be just getting out of bed, or having a shower, or eating (even if you throw it up, who cares).

Don't discount the small stuff. To others this may seem basic, but getting back to basics, and a having routine is the foundation for getting rid of anxiety.

Take things one day at a time. Be strong and never give in.

Be Well.

Welcome to HU. We are glad you reached out and shared here. This is a safe place where everyone understands the struggles of anxiety and depression. What helps me is trying to take my thoughts captured. I do two techniques that really help. Also, I hope you are in counseling and have seen a doctor for your depression and anxiety. I have had those really low moments and they are tough to go through and you don't want to try to go through them on your own.

Here are the two techniques:

The 557 breathing technique is take 5 deep breaths in while thinking good thoughts about yourself like I matter, I am special, I am strong and then hold the breaths for the count of 7 focusing on those words about yourself, then let out the breath slowly for 5 seconds letting go of any anxious, self-defeating, unhealthy thought. I do this one to three times a sitting. The gratitude journal is writing down something good every morning and night something that went well in the day, or something I appreciate about myself. Taking our focus off of the anxiety and depression and focusing on positive uplifting things really helps. What you think is what you believe. So thinking uplifting things you believe those things but the reverse is true - thinking negative self-defeating things, you will believe those. I will be praying for you. Feel free to pm me if you'd like to chat. Hugs and God Bless
