It is so stressful, so panic inducing,so anxiety inducing to live in the United States right now. Not only are we dealing with, you know, potentially deadly virus going around especially where I live. But I also have to deal with the ****that's happening in my capital!my God!! can we deal with one traumatic experience at a time!i have anxiety, I have panic attacks sometimes, And I am doing my damn best to deal with my own fears and mild setbacks but to be also dealing with like domestic terrorism in my country and a pandemic.. ughhh ****!! I'm tired on living on the edge of my seat. Im tired of feeling soo damn scared all the time. I dont want to have a melt down over this again! I had one back in June and its taken every part of me to build me back up only to be locked up in my home scared to leave and scare to be on S.M. because its too much!! Its all too much!

I have to limit my social media time and news time. It’s too much. I set up timers on my phone so it locks me out after a certain amount of time.

Not a bad idea

On iPhones it’s in settings > screen time > app limit. I give myself an hour a day total divided between 3 different apps for news and social media.

Do I ever agree with you. Having similar feelings. How about you and I hang in there a while longer. OK??? We can offer each other and others having similar feelings support.

Yep...I'll share my safety ladder!!! Anxious, mind boggling times. Feet firmly planted on the ground...me? I want to fly high over this chaos, free from fright, free from reaction, free from anger. Just me and the billowing, beautiful clouds

It is a lot. Everyone is feeling it. People that didn't have too many issues with anxiety and depression are now really going through it. We've all just got to pull through. I really do believe things will get better, but it is a rocky start to the new year.

I really do too. I think that's my saving grace. Ive just grown very tired tired of waiting. Also tired of straight non sense coming from the place whats suppose to government us. 😒

In the past I have taken holidays from social media and the news. Now on social media I will unfollow people who RT lots about the news from my feed or like bigoted posts and I have stopped following journalists. I still check the news, but just the headlines on TV or in my preferred newspaper online. But I have stopped reading every sentence of every opinion article. It may not make sense, but think I got some kind of relief in a way from finding something in the news to upset me.

Im limiting my time on social media as well, trouble is my family and my friends are all still talkinh about it. Its seems soo hard to escape from it.

Can you limit time with your family and friends or ask them not to speak about it in front of you

First of all I empathize with how you feel. I feel the same & I suppose most Americans do too. I myself found myself checking the news constantly & this just made my anxiety worse. So now I just check Google News a few minutes a day & only look at the headlines, without even opening a story. That way I feel I'm staying informed but reducing the anxiety caused by constant news consumption. Note that reducing my news consumption in this way has been a difficult habit to break.

I dont watch the news anymore. I do want you do, headlines from google , BUT! What happen was pretty jarring and straight crazy that people around me will not stop talking about it so it felt very consuming.

I was thinking the worst would happen in 2016 and I spent a year avoiding all news. But avoidance isn't good as it's important to know what is happening good and bad. I have realised worrying doesn't help anyone especially yourself, and it is better to take action online or in real life if you feel strongly about something. Taking action, even if it doesn't work does make you feel better/that at least you tried/ and didn't just stand by and watch something happen.

The way I look at it there are things I personally can take action on, and things I can't. And I think it's wise to limit the latter. For example if I'm anxious about a big exam coming up, then I can do something at that - I can study hard. So it makes sense to expend a lot of mental energy on the exam. But the news is something I can't do much about, so obsessing over it just increases my anxiety.

I have been having a hard time too. But I keep telling myself it's going to be ok. Deep in my heart I truly believe that. I have faith in democracy and believe there are many kind and decent people. Try to limit how much news you watch and avoid social media. On Facebook many of my lifelong friends have been editing their friend list. I have done that and also gone to people's pages clicked on the far right tab at the top and clicked on take a break. If you do that what they post doesn't show up in your notifications or news feed and they can't see anything you post. Please hang in there as best you can. We will get through this by helping each other and being kind. HUGS!

Be careful of what information you may read or see, it can consume you to your core. I deleted my Facebook, Twitter account. Instead of watching the news I just go and play guitar, talk with my dog and listen to Pink Floyd. 🙏🏻🎸🎶🎵

I am going through the same thing too. These are such troubling times and I am definitely falling apart.
