Back at my Welsh cottage at last.

I looked out of my bedroom window yesterday morning and my spirits soared as I saw snowy mountain tops with wisps of mist over the forests and estuary outside my window.

At last the Covid rules in Wales have allowed me to visit once again after 5 long months and I couldn't be happier to be here despite my freezing cold bedroom and the mess made by the builders who have just recently left having done a beautiful job on my house.

I drove up into the mountains and walked by an icy bubbling river through woods with bare twisted branches covered with emerald green moss and hung with wisps of grey cobweb lichen. I reached a spectacular rushing, tumbling waterfall with grey rocky mountain tops streaked with snow glimpsed through the trees.

Later I crossed the historic Menai suspension bridge to look down into the milky pale green waters of the fast flowing straits, scattered with little islets with old churches clinging to the rocks. On the other side, the island of Anglesey held the promise of many summer days to come walking through deep green forests to sandy shores and isolated rocky coves with the mountains of Snowdonia on the skyline across the straits.

I am feeling the promise of the end of this terrible pandemic for us all with a vaccine on the horizon.

I have been away from this website for awhile now but soon I will write to friends here once again and I hope they and you will take courage and feel that we are all moving towards a brighter future and that the dark clouds are lifting.

My very best wishes.

Kim

Dear Kim,

How lovely, you almost 'raised a tear' (not easy to do, with me, I didn't even cry at Marley And Me).

When we were all Children ALL of us... Our Family and our Friends, went to Wales- Snowdonia. There were four Adults and the five of us children, Poor Angela was in plaster- down her arms and legs, having fallen off a slide. We stayed at a Farmhouse, with only one Bathroom... and Loo! Though you could, and we did, 'Go' outside in a small barn area.

The scenery was, as you say, amazing and we all climbed several 'Mountains'- along with Snowdon, by the Beddgellet route. (Incidentally do you believe, the Legend, of Beddgellet? Or do you think it 'Fanciful' nonsense. I have heard, fairly compelling, arguments, both ways.)

I will be Copying, your beautiful Pictures Kim- only for my own use mind. You Capture the Mountains, so well. Where is that lovely Village, that you are approaching? Do you come 'from', Wales yourself Kim?

It's all rather sad, at the moment, we have a friend who has died of COVID- it was brought in by a Carer, for his Wife (she had a stroke, some years ago). Their Son, and Daughter in law, live in Porthgaine (I think that's right, the spell checker hasn't a clue!). Clearly We can't visit, at this Time- especially as the local Inn is currently closed.

Make you smile, I hope.... Good King Wenslasslass (or however it's spelt) calls his local Pizza shop "I'd like a Pizza please". "Certainly Sir" comes the reply "You 'Normal' one.... Deep Pan, Crisp And Even".

One of Santa's Helpers got himself into a 'spot of bother', with some Scam Shopping- not really his fault. Anyway, his friends started a 'Crowd Funding' Page.... it is going to be know as.... wait for this.... The National Elf!

I've 'Rambled On', quite enough now Kim, Once again some Beautiful Photos, of a Beautiful Place.... Thank You.

Hi Andrew.I am not sure if you got my last long reply as I see now that it may not have gone to you but you should be able to read it on the thread of this post.

Just incase you can't see it I will again say thank you for your lovely reply which both touched and amused me.

I also forgot to answer your question about the Beddgelert legend. I find it very sad and hope it is not true. I remember my daughter was upset when she read it on the statue when we took her on holiday to Wales as a child. I therefore would like to think that it is not true.

I hope you and your family have a lovely Christmas and a very happy 2021.

Hi AndrewI am so glad it brought back happy memories for you. You made me smile with your reply.

I am very sorry to hear you lost a friend to Covid, his wife and family must be devastated.

The village in the photo is called Llandegfan I think from looking at Google maps. I took the photo from the bridge on the right hand side looking towards Anglesey.

I don't come from Wales but my parents took my sister and I on holiday there a few times and I loved the mountains and the beaches. When I sadly lost my mother a few years ago, having lost my father many years earlier I decided to buy a holiday home with the legacy they left me and was able to make a dream come true in January this year. Then followed the pandemic making it impossible for me to visit and difficult to get the work done on the house. I did manage quite a few trips in the summer when lockdown was lifted in both countries however.

Very best wishes.

Thank you for sharing. The photos and your beautiful words lifted my spirits immensely. It is 4am and I have been awake for an hour and a half. Anxiety has once again interrupted sleep. So for now I will pour over every detail of your photos and every word you wrote. I will enjoy a small bit of peace. HUGS!

Thanks so much, it brought tears to my eyes to think I have been able to help you even a little.I am so sorry you are suffering anxiety and waking from sleep with it. Our sleep is so important to our mental wellness.

In a way it is not at all surprising that your anxiety has continued given this terrible pandemic and the very important but risky jobs your husband and son do if I remember rightly.

My very best wishes to you and your family and here's hoping we all have a much better 2021.

Kim

Hi Sunlife.Lovely to hear from you.

Yes Wales is a beautiful place. Where are you?

If you're in the UK Wales will not be too far for you to visit when this terrible pandemic is over.

Where ever you live I would be happy to give you the details of where the places in the photos are if you want to message me. They are all easy enough to find if you are able to travel to North Wales. If you are interested I have done several more posts about Wales with photos you can see and read about.

I live in the South East of England and sail and swim in a beautiful area there also and have written and posted photos about this too. I am into gardening also and have done posts about this with photos.

I would love to hear about your area/ garden and see photos, I am always interested in growing things, scenery and landscape, cities and parks as well as the countryside.

I particularly like hearing about the wildlife and landscapes in other countries and write to a few friends on this website who live in the States.

Very best wishes.
