What has this post got to do with anxiety disorder and depression? Please explain. Are you on the right forum?

It has served me well when I am most depressed to think of others and how I might be kind or just do good. What serves you well?

Using Claire Weekes' Acceptance method to practice accepting the symptoms of anxiety (for the time being) and thereby stop fighting anxiety which only makes things worse. By practicing this co-existence with symptoms we cease to generate fear hormones that maintain our nerve's over sensitivity.

When you are experiencing anxiety and depression that is the only time you can practice the Acceptance method so do not waste the opportunity to recover.

I am talking about secondary depression ie we are depressed about having anxiety disorder. Depression caused by hormonal imbalance I know nothing about.

Alternatively you can use distraction and I imagine I am telling something interesting to someone, practice how you would express yourself conversationally. After about 15 minutes I find the low feeling has lifted.

Not good enough answer, staypositive.

This forum is about anxiety and depression and many of the long-term helpers and posters here are fed up with it becoming a forum for exchanging jokes, musical discussions, art, philosophical profundities and other anxiety irrelevant subjects.

I've been dealing (mostly successfully) with anxiety for 46 years and I can assure you that nobody gained respite or recovery from anxiety disorder and became happy once again through jokes. If only it was that easy. All therapists would have to do is give someone a Bumper Book of Jokes and job done!

Sometimes it's good to laugh at yourself though like "the cure for agoraphobia is just around the corner!" Think about it😂

Instead, why not discuss methods that are known to lead to full recovery from anxiety and disorder?

Like Claire Weekes' acceptance method as set out in her first book 'Self help with your nerves'.

David Barlow, Emeritus Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry at Boston University recently wrote that Doctor Weekes' method has cured over 2 million people of anxiety.

If you count the number of reader reviews for all her books on both the u.k. and u.s. versions of Amazon you will find that in recent years alone there have been 1,600 reviews and 90% rated her either Very Good or Excellent.

There are other self-help methods but many are based on Weekes' acceptance method for which she was nominated for a Nobel Prize.

As far as I can remember there are no jokes in her books😂🤣.

I disagree. A book that has helped 2 million people recover from anxiety becomes the most interesting book in the world if you have anxiety disorder. It offers you recovery and it's all about you. Surely that's an incredibly interesting prospect.

Here's a joke about anxiety disorder, hope it doesn't offend: A doctor is sitting in his office, his door to the waiting room is ajar.

'Next!' he shouts through the open door. A man enters: "Doctor! Doctor! Nobody ever takes any notice of me, it's like I'm the invisible man, like I don't exist. Everyone ignores me and it's getting me down! I think I have an inferiority complex, what can you do to help me?"

The doctor looks up from his desk and shouts through the open door to the waiting room.

"Next!"

I may have a look at Claire Week's books
