Hi Sierramist. My goodness I totally understand. I developed Agoraphobia, panick attacks 38 years ago shortly after moving County.
The only 'thing' which truly helped me were Books and Cassettes by Dr ClairevWeekes. Everything is in the books and listening to her cassettes were the best as I could not concentrate back then.
I initially got the books and Cassettes from the library. I then bought her cassettes and listened to them All Day every day. One in particular 'Good Morning, Good Evening', another I think 'Moving around', she talks to you as if she were with you and Understands EVERYTHING. You could google her name and listen to her talks on you tube.
P.s. she is very distinguishable - older Lady/grey hair/glasses from Australia.
Back then I didn't leave the house for 2 years. I panicked 24/7, couldn't eat, tight band around the head/neck. Called GP out daily....horrendous and very frightening. X
hi sierramist, sorry you’re having a rough time. I’ve had anxiety/panic attacks myself but rarely do so anymore and what helps me prevent them is A) try not to worry about it possibly happening again B) figure out what your triggers for your attacks are and avoid or address them C) find relaxation techniques that work for you and use them regularly (I do yoga, deep breathing exercises and meditate twice a day to help with anxiety) D) when you feel one coming on, don’t panic about the fact it’s about to happen, just focus on stopping what you’re doing and getting to a safe quiet space you can be alone then start taking slow deep breaths sitting or laying down. E) create a short and comforting mantra you can repeat to yourself out loud to help ground you during an attack like- im not in danger, im in sitting in the car or im ok, im safe, im not hurt. you can also just talk to yourself about safe mundane topics like when you should do laundry or whatever else. hope that’s helpful.
Yes, when you feel your next attack coming. Place your hand on your belly area, breath in through your nose and feel your belly rise, if it doesn't rise, do it till it does and out through your mouth nice and slowly.
Best advice I can give it works for me every time.
