Is wanting to die the same as having suicidal thoughts?
I have no intention of taking my own life but I’m in my 60s and would be happy not to run to the doc and seek treatment if I thought I might have something which was potentially life threatening.

Nope. If what you're saying is accurate it's just because you have nothing to look forward to. I'm like you (50's). If I got hit by a truck okay but I would never act. As long as you stay that way it just means you're in a 'blah' state like me. I'm trying to help others. What can you maybe do to help and give the rest of your life meaning?
I agree that it is not the same thing. I have tried to commit suicide several times - almost successfully, but not yet. When I just couldn't do it anymore, I prayed to God to just take me. He didn't and I got angry with him. Finally, like you, I have got to this blue state where if I got something life threatening, I would just let it take me. I keep trying to move forward, but sometimes I just can't see the path to do it. This site has helped me to hold onto a straw - hopefully not the last one.
