Hello everyone, I’m 24 years and I have anxiety and depression. I’ve dealt with it my whole, but only appearing at random times. I’m trying to get a accounting degree through online program, but I just found out most of the classes have online proctors and I’m already feeling overwhelmed from all of it. I know this is dumb, but I’m feeling overwhelmed and worried I’m not going to do good. I’ve had panic attacks at the beginning of each school year and I can’t figure out why.

School anxiety and depression
Hi, how are you doing? In all honesty, I'm almost 50 and I have a lot of trouble trying to figure out all of the technology too. I don't have kids, but if I did I would be so baffled with all this online learning going on because of the pandemic. Do you have anyone in your life who could be helpful, or call or email a person at the school who could help? I'm just throwing out suggestions. I hope eventually it works out for you.
I am sorry for your struggle. My kid has extreme anxiety when school starts. We attend therapy session just to be able to start that first day. Give yourself some grace when it comes to online learning. Take a deep breath and jump on in. Maybe take a couple of classes this semester and then the last few next semester. You should go to the counseling center at your college and sit down to speak with someone. Counselors can talk with you and put you at ease with your college journey. You can do it!
Speak to your GP. Trying anything new can cause anxiety (fear of the unknown). They say you have to stay in the situation until you get used to the anxiety, as it will decrease eventually. It isn’t dumb at all. Your body is just alerting you to a threat, which can set off the fight or flight reaction. Some people’s nervous system is more sensitive to threats. Your GP would be a good starting point to seek help. Millions of people seek help for anxiety every year. Think if you bust your leg would you get help? Tell yourself how well you have done so far, doing this course INSPITE of your anxiety.
Hi- I’m sorry to hear about your struggles. Yes, most of the classes now are online. I have a son who is a rising sophomore and he will be online this coming semester but his other friends are hybrid teaching.
Just do what you need to do and find some time to rest. Try not to be hard on yourself. My son, in between his classes, he plays piano and watches video clips on YouTube. I hope you can do things that will help you to relax. Take care of yourself.
You can also reach out to someone who can help you about your course. If you need counseling, a school counselor is trained to help you. Praying for you for peace and things will go well with you. Please keep us posted. God bless.
