Repeat PTSD?

I had severe PTSD about 18 years ago. At that time I quit talking (couldn't) and forgot basic things. Recently I went through some horrific curcumstances. I find myself searching for words and not remembering. The situation was extreme for about five weeks. Is it possible that my forgetfulness and loss of words is simular to a PTSD episode again? Any suggestions?

Yes, I believe it is possible. I've had a few traumas many years apart.

The symptoms came back full blown with the re-trauma.

Do you have a therapist? Addressing the trauma early is very important.

I’m not an expert but I know it can happen. I developed PTSD years ago and managed to get past it. I still have anxiety and depression, but recently (in the last month) I’ve started experiencing my old PTSD episodes again and I’m now back in therapy. I think new experiences of trauma and stress can trigger it. Definitely seek help and I hope you find the healing you need. Don’t try to battle this on your own.
