I was prescribed antipsychotics 25 years ago following a breakdown. I dearly wish to stop taking them but am so fraud I will go downhill once I’ve stopped. I suffer with severe anxiety but if I relapse I could lose everything. My question is has anyone else ever come off medication they’ve been in for many years and how did it affect you? I am really worried about kidney problems and osteoporosis etc and can’t decide whether I should risk coming off them. There are also a lot of negative side affects such as weight gain and loss of libido. Thanks in advance 😊

I relate very well to what you're saying. I'm in the same boat. I get tired of taking psyche meds every day myself. I think the main thing that the doctor is watching and what to ask yourself is how stable are you and how is your life going? Years ago I was on a very high dose of Seroquel. I didn't like the weight I was gaining. I was able to gradually take a much lower dose, but the doctor emphasized that he would only reduce it if I wasn't having big mood swings and my life was going all right, and that these drugs have to be reduced very gradually. And if you never are able to completely get off of them, don't think less of yourself and let that get to you. I know how it is, I hate taking these drugs too. The best thing is to have a decent psychiatrist that will be attentive to you. I know how some of them can be very condescending and have bad attitudes themselves. I wish you the best!!!!☺
