Help with motivation

Hi y'all! I'm new here and was just wondering if anyone has found ways of dealing with getting motivation. I have had a really hard time the last year and a half with getting the motivation to do housework and just really anything around the house. I really want and need to get out of this funk but I just don't know where to start. Any help or ideas would be amazing!

Welcome prplfrk17... we all get overwhelmed with life at times. We look around

and don't know where to start and so we do nothing. Waiting for another day

when we may start. I have found, making a list of things to do in no special order

is a start. That's all you need to do the first day and that's make the list.

Day 2...look down through the list and pick the easiest one to tackle. Cross it off.

Day 3 and after, it will be about getting started with harder things which may take

a day or two. Always go back and look at what you accomplished. No matter how

big or small, a satisfaction that you did something worthwhile will make you feel

better.

One evening while I was watching tv, I used that time to clean out my linen closet

using the table in that room and keeping myself distracted with my favorite show.

Before long, my closet was all organized again. It wasn't until the next day, when

opening the door to that closet, did a feeling of satisfaction and pride come over me.

Gee, something so small made my day start on a better foot.

Now I can totally relate! I have experienced this when I am in a funk. It sucks. You see it but it just seems overwhelming and you can't even begin. Here's what I do.

I get up, put my hair up, get rubber gloves on and make myself move without feeling like doing it. Kind of like I just move in the direction I need to go and leave my brain out of it.

If that doesn't work I turn on "Hoarders". It's on streaming services. Anyway. Seeing people with houses like that and them trying to clean up really motivates me. Lol

I put on really loud Spanish music. Like Vicente Fernandez and clean for 5 songs. Before I know it I'm cleaning my butt off. Maybe different music would be your choice. Sometimes its 90's rap. Lol. I'm weird.

I decide on a reward for cleaning and when I finish I enjoy it. Sometimes it's a frap from Starbucks. Or laptop surfing time. Or playing tik tock on my phone.

And sometimes I tell my husband "I'm stuck" and he does a big clean and before I know it I'm motivated because I'm not overwhelmed so much anymore.

Hi,

In CBT group therapy, the practitioner said 'motivation comes from doing'.

I know that sounds really simplistic, you think, 'if I could just do it, I would'...

but they're your only choices, to do something, or not to do it.

She explained, there's no such thing as motivation, just do it.

As I'm typing this, I'm aware it doesn't make sense, sorry!

That’s a really good way to think about it. The CBT therapy also taught us that actions precedes motivation. But maybe motivation doesn’t exist. What you do day to day is what matters. Then it becomes a habit and a willingness to work on things and get them done
